Penguin Payday leans into a light-hearted Antarctic theme, and you’ll see a cheeky, confident cartoon penguin perched on top of the reels. The backdrop of the game is really nicely designed. The reels are set within an ice cave, with snowflakes falling constantly and ice crystals to the right and left-hand sides of the screen.

Penguin Payday uses a five-reel, four-row layout with 40 fixed paylines. Bets range from €0.20 to €100 per spin. The RTP is very slightly above the current industry average: 96.01%.

Wild symbols can land on reels 2, 3, and 4, and when one does, there’s a chance that a random Penguin feature will trigger. If it does, a penguin will cross the reels. If another Wild lands directly below the Penguin, it transforms the whole reel into a Wild.

Multiplier symbols can land on all reels. These symbols display values between 2x and 500x. However, these Multiplier values only apply to Wilds. If more than one Multiplier lands on the same spin, their values are added together first. The total is then applied to each wild on the screen. Multiplier wilds can also expand if they land beneath the penguin.

Now, when a spin lands four Bonus symbols and there is no chance for a fifth to appear, the Penguin Bonus Boost can trigger. When it does, the penguin hops to the final reel and adds an extra Bonus symbol, potentially upgrading your Free Spins trigger.

The Free Spins itself is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the Scatter symbols anywhere in view, and doing so awards 10, 15, or 20 free games, respectively. During the Free Spins, special persistent Wilds collect Multiplier symbols, and then retain their values for the rest of the feature, so it’s one of those games where the latter spins offer the most win potential.

Finally, there’s the Multiplier Panel. You’ll see this sitting directly above the reels during the base game, and it begins at 1x. On “tease” spins that end without a Bonus symbol landing, the multiplier increases by +0.5 per reel, up to a maximum of 10x. When the bonus round is triggered, the current Multiplier is then applied to all Wilds on the first spin.
