Game Overview

With all of the modern-day spooks and horror characters that Hollywood has developed, you can’t help but feel that Dracula has been left behind a little and perhaps isn’t as feared as he once was. Luckily, for his pride and possibly his ego, he’s still getting plenty of work thanks to game providers such as Backseat Gaming, who have used him as their main focus in their Old Drac slot, a 6-reel game filled with cascading wins, multipliers and wins that can reach a maximum of 12,5000x the bet.

Theme & Design

Like most releases that use the Dracula theme, the setting for Old Drac is the count’s Transylvanian castle, so expect an eerie setting, flying bats, and the appearance of Drac guarding the reels at the side of the game. This may be a theme that’s a well-trodden path, with lots of use over the years, but credit to Backseat for the overall design here; the colours look great, the graphics are sharp, and the animations are smooth.

I always like to throw in more game suggestions at this point of our reviews, and I think if you want to explore similar titles, you should check out our Halloween slots section, as Old Drac fits more into that genre than our horror slots page, where some of the titles are much more gory and scary. I won’t leave you hanging for a game to try right now, so go check out Push Gaming’s Fat Drac, a really fun title to play with big prizes up for grabs.

Old Drac Gameplay & Features

Backseat Gaming’s Old Drac utilises a 6-reel, 5-row configuration operating on the scatter pays engine, with wins awarded when 8 or more matching symbols land anywhere within the playfield. Along with a standard RTP of 96.29%, the game offers minimum/maximum bets of €0.10 and €100, respectively.

Old Drac is a cascading reels slot, so all symbols that are involved in a win are removed from the reels with new ones falling down to replace them for more chances to win. Additionally, garlic symbols can land during any sequence of spins with multipliers up to 200x attached. These multipliers are then all added together and applied to the total of any wins achieved.

Moving on to the main bonus, there are two variations of the free spins round that can be triggered. The first of these is The Garlic Hunt, awarding 10 free spins when 4 scatter symbols land in view. During this bonus, there is a ladder to the right of the reels which can be climbed by landing scatter symbols in view. Each position you climb awards extra free spins and guarantees the minimum value of garlic multiplier that can appear.

The enhanced version of the bonus, titled Drac Attack, is triggered when 5 scatters land, awarding 10 free spins. This variation of the feature plays out the same as The Garlic Hunt, but before it begins, you will start at a random place on the ladder between levels 1 and 4.

Bonus Buy

Backseat Gaming has added several enhanced betting options and bonus buy features for you to take advantage of. These are:

  • BonusHunt FeatureSpins: Each spin is 3 times more likely to trigger a bonus – Costs 2x the bet.

  • Garlic Blast FeatureSpins: Each spin guarantees garlic symbols with 2x – 25x multipliers.

  • Garlic Mayhem FeatureSpins: Each spin guarantees garlic symbols with 25x – 200x multipliers.

  • The Garlic Hunt Free Spins: Cost 100x the bet.

  • Drac Attack Free Spins: Costs 200x the bet.

Pros

  • The garlic multipliers are present in the base game and free spins.
  • High max win of 12,500x.
  • Well-presented with bold colours and good graphics.
  • Low minimum stake entry of €0.10 a spin.
  • The multiplier ladder guarantees higher multipliers if you get lucky.

Cons

  • The win multiplier isn't persistent.
  • Similar to other scatter pay games.

Old Drac Slot Review Final Thoughts

I always think it's hard for any game provider to release a title in the scatter pays market without it looking or playing in some way like Pragmatic Play's Gates of Olympus. That's certainly the vibe I'm getting from Old Drac, and even though the game has the multiplier meter that can guarantee the minimum values that can be hit, the main elements of the slot are similar to what we've seen in the past.

That's not to say it's a bad game, as it's very well made with some excellent visuals, but just don't expect to see anything new or groundbreaking in the scatter slot niche here, as you'll be left disappointed.
