If you haven’t heard of GONG before, then perhaps now is the time to get to know them – the presentation of their games is immaculate, belying their relatively short time on the scene. Their Neptune’s Harem video slot is a perfect example of this – the graphics are top-notch, the animation is silky-smooth, and even the sound has had careful attention paid to it – I didn’t end up switching it off the entire time I was writing this review! That’s a great start, but it isn’t all smooth sailing – there’s nothing wrong with the 20 pay lines or the 10,000x maximum win, but an RTP of just 94.04% is amongst the lowest I have seen this year so far.

Is the low RTP enough to sink Neptune’s Harem in its tracks? Possibly not – the game is part of the “Royal League” series, which means there are four jackpot prizes that can be won in the randomly-triggered Royal League subgame. I suspect that a portion of the RTP could be going towards those prizes, which explains the low figure. Even if that isn’t the case, the possibility of winning up to 10,000x your stake just from a subgame before your spin takes place could be enough to tempt players to try the game. There’s a regular bonus game, too, of course, which awards up to 12 free spins with a multiplier of up to 10x.

Neptune’s Harem Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Neptune’s Harem is another online slot that takes place in the oceans, but the reels include much more than just shellfish and oysters this time around. Neptune is the god of freshwater and the sea in Norse mythology, and he’s been the focus of a handful of slots before. There’s Neptune’s Quest, Neptune Treasure, and Neptune’s Kingdom … all have a similar vibe to this game, with Williams (WMS) Neptune’s Quest probably being the best of the bunch. In GONG’s take on the Norse god and his kingdom, he is surrounded by a harem of beautiful mermaid women – who could argue with that?

Let’s check out the regular paytable – is it as generous as the Royal League bonus game? It might just be – the wild sits at the top of the table with a return of 500x your stake for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind. A full line of wilds is usually a rare combination, and with such a high payout, you can bet that you won’t be seeing it land every time you play. Nevertheless, it’s undoubtedly nice to know that the game has the potential to award such a chunky win just from a line hit. The scatters also pay in Neptune’s Harem online slot, a feature that is becoming rare nowadays. Hitting all five scatters simultaneously will pay 40x your stake, whilst four pay 10x, and three pay 5x. They aren’t the biggest scatter prizes I have ever seen, but I would still rather have them than nothing!

There are four high-paying regular symbols, all of which feature a mermaid from Neptune’s Harem. The redhead has the biggest prize attached with a return of 25x your bet for five-of-a-kind, followed by the black-haired beauty at 20x, the green chick at 17.5x, and finally the purple-haired lady at 15x. The remainder of the symbols ranges in value between 12.5x and 5x for five-of-a-kind.

With regards to spinning your way into the action on this title, you’ll find the minimum bet per spin is €0.20, whilst the maximum is set at €25.00.

Base Game & Modifiers

So, how does it play? The base game takes place on a 5×3 playfield, the familiar setup typical to thousands of online slot machines. Wins are paid in the most standard fashion – three or more matching symbols on a pay line from left to right.

What isn’t quite so standard is the way that the game’s various features work. The Royal League bonus round is triggered during the base game but qualifies as a bonus round, so we will discuss it in the next section.

Neptune’s Harem Slot Free Spins Feature

The scatter symbols do not trigger the main bonus round, as you might expect, and only award the cash prizes detailed in the Theme & Symbols, Paylines & Stakes section. You’ll need to hit two bonus symbols on reels one and five to trigger the free spins feature.

After hitting the two triggering bonus symbols on reels one and five, you will be asked to pick from a selection of cards to determine the number of free spins and multiplier. The free spins card range in value from 5 free spins up to a maximum of 12, whilst the multiplier can be 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x.

The ideal scenario would be a 12 free spin round with a 10x multiplier; however, I did not manage to get quite so lucky while testing the Neptune’s Harem slot game. I did get the 10x multiplier, but only with 7 free spins, and I did get 12 free spins, but only with a 3x multiplier. Better luck next time, I suppose?

Royal League Feature

I never got to play this part of the game whilst I was testing – I’m not sure if perhaps it cannot be triggered in demo mode, but I can at least tell you a little bit about it directly from the developer. The Royal League feature utilises two dice and a grid with 49 tiles. One dice features direction, whilst the other has regular numbered sides.

You will move around the grid following the directions given on the die until you roll “collect”. At that point, you will be awarded the jackpot corresponding to the colour underneath your current position. The prizes range from €10 up to a maximum of €10,000.

Neptune’s Harem Slot Review Final Thoughts

I love Neptune’s Harem presentation–it looks as good as any other online slot out there. It’s a shame that the base game doesn’t feature much in the way of features, but the main free spins bonus can be very generous if you hit the bigger multipliers. The Royal League bonus is just the icing on the cake – a maximum prize of €10,000? Who wouldn’t be happy with that! Overall, this is a solid effort from GONG that is only marked down because of the lower-than-average RTP.
