Game Overview
Developer Backseat Gaming has become a pretty significant name in the online gambling world in recent years, and their partnership with Hacksaw Gaming has allowed them to penetrate markets worldwide. Neon Frames, one of their latest releases, is a cluster pays game that offers multiple bonuses and a maximum win potential of up to 15,000x!
Theme & Design
Neon Frames is a flashy, club-inspired take on the classic fruit slot, and, as is the case with most Backseat Gaming slots, the design is simple, with some glowing retro lights giving off a bit of a dancefloor vibe. Like all of their other games, with Mystery Bats and Pirate Bonanza 2 being good examples, they use Hacksaw Gaming’s platform, so don’t be shocked if you feel the game looks like it’s from Hacksaw!
The visuals are pretty clean and crisp, but they’re not overly detailed or animated, as is common with their games. So, it looks alright, but fans of modern masterpieces, like you’d see from the likes of Nolimit City and Push Gaming, may be left disappointed.

Neon Frames Gameplay & Features
Neon Frames uses a 6×5 grid with a cluster pays mechanic. This means that wins are formed by landing 5 or more matching symbols horizontally or vertically anywhere in view. Once a win is formed, a cascade is triggered which removes winning symbols, allowing new ones to drop in.
Now, you can play Neon Frames for between €0.10 and €100, and this highly volatile game boasts an above-average RTP of 96.26%.
The core feature of the slot is the Neon Frames feature itself. When a wild lands, it highlights its position with a glowing frame and adds its multiplier of between 2x and 100x. If another wild lands on the same spot, the multipliers stack on top of each other, too. When a highlighted position is part of a winning cluster, all its multipliers are combined and applied to the total win!
If you land one of the special “TRIGGER” symbols in view at the end of the spin, every highlighted position is transformed into a wild. The TRIGGER symbol also becomes wild.
This can be lucrative in the base game, but it’s the free spins feature you’ll want to look out for. This is triggered by landing three or four scatter symbols in view. Landing three awards the Berry Wild Burst bonus, which sees you receiving 10 free spins. During the bonus, the highlighted squares stay active between spins until they’re activated by a TRIGGER symbol, at which point they revert to regular cells.
Landing four scatter symbols awards the Strawberry Bonanza bonus. Again, you receive ten free spins, but this time, highlighted squares remain permanently active throughout the round.
Bonus Buy
Like almost all Backseat Gaming slots today, Neon Frames contains some bonus buy options. You can increase your base game stake by 100% to make it 3x more likely that the free spins bonus will trigger naturally, or you can pay 100x or 250x to trigger the two free spins rounds instantly.
Pros
- Win up to 15,000x your bet.
- Nice design.
- Good bonus round mechanic.
Cons
- The base game can be boring.
- Some regions will be unable to access the bonus buy options.
Neon Frames Slot Review Final Thoughts
Neon Frames may not win any design awards, but this is pretty much what we’ve come to expect from Backseat Gaming slots now. Still, if you can look past the simplistic graphics, you’ll find a game that offers some decent win potential, but maybe not quite enough uniqueness.
While writing this review, we tested out a few of the Strawberry Bonus buys. On our first attempt, we won almost 3,500x, but the subsequent six buys were losses, and, to be honest, it just wasn’t that fun. The TRIGGER symbols didn’t land that much, and even when they did, it was rare to see the wilds lining up.
Still, we have no doubts that some lucky players will hit the 15,000x maximum win potential, but for us, it’s not the most exciting game in the world, and it doesn’t offer any mechanics or bonuses that we haven’t seen before.
