Slot Overview

Mythical Guardians is the latest release from PG Soft, and inside, it offers a pretty intense, action-packed gaming experience. You’ll find cascading reels, expanding framed symbols, and a dynamic Free Spins bonus, all played on a 1024-ways-to-win format! Boasting a maximum win potential of 15,000x, it’s one of the software provider’s most volatile offerings, but is it any good? Find out in our comprehensive Mythical Guardians slot review!

Theme & Design

PG Soft has done an absolutely superb job recently of upping its game and pushing out slots that genuinely live up to the quality we’re used to seeing from mainstream providers. Releases like Skylight Wonders and Doomsday Rampage, for example, are both excellent, incorporating new mechanics, superb graphics and offering an overall fantastic gaming experience.

Mythical Guardians is consistent in keeping up this new level of quality. The game is set within a mystical, temple-like world where elemental symbols and powerful guardian creatures appear on the reels!

The background features unique moving energy patterns and stonework, and it does a really good job of giving the impression that ancient magic is being performed in front of your eyes!

Mythical Guardians Gameplay & Bonus Features

Mythical Guardians uses a 5-reel, 4-row layout with 1,024 ways to win. You can stake between €0.60 and €180 per spin. The game’s RTP is fixed in place at 96%.

The game’s core feature is the Expanding Symbol mechanic, and on any spin, one or more framed symbols can land on reels 2, 3, or 4. When a framed symbol is part of a win, it transforms into a Wild. Once transformed, all symbol positions in the same row, or on the same reel, become “activated”. These activated positions then turn into new, randomly selected symbols before cascading down. This process can repeat multiple times within one spin.

The game’s main Free Spins Bonus is triggered by landing three scatter symbols anywhere in view, and doing so awards ten free games. During the free spins, the framed symbols mechanic remains active, but it now comes along at a much higher frequency. Plus, when transformed into a Wild, framed symbols turn both their reel and row into activated symbols.

Pros

  • Win up to 15,000x.
  • Expanding framed symbols offer decent excitement in the base game and bonus round.
  • Free Spins can be re-triggered to fully benefit from the core mechanic.

Cons

  • Base game wins are heavily reliant on framed symbols activating.
  • Feels quite unrealistic to get anywhere near the game’s maximum win potential.

Mythical Guardians Slot Review Final Thoughts

Mythical Guardians was always going to be a fairly decent release, as it marks the 200th game released by the software provider. We like it, and it looks good. The mechanics are well-thought-out, and while not totally unique, PG Soft has presented them in a way that feels refreshing and new.

Still, there are some areas of the game we don’t love, too. The base game can feel quiet at times, especially if you’re not getting many symbol activations, and you’re quite reliant on multiple cascades to get any serious win potential.

The bonus round is quite exciting, but in our experience it’s quite reliant on re-triggers to get anywhere near its real potential, and we’re not entirely sure how you’d get close to the maximum win potential of 15,000x, given there are no multipliers in play or anything like that.

Still, though, Mythical Guardians is well suited to players who enjoy modern, mechanic-driven slots, and it’s well-designed and fully mobile optimised, too, making it ideal for players used to gambling on the go!
