Slot Overview
Mortal Oath is a release from Foxhound Games, a new Hacksaw Gaming partner studio. Played on a classic 5×3 setup with 9 fixed paylines, the slot is set in a dark, demon-infested vision of Japan’s Sengoku era, and you’ll find features like Expanding Wild Multipliers, Hold & Win Bonuses, Feature Buys, and a maximum win potential of 10,000x. What did the Demoslot team make of Mortal Oath? Find out in this detailed slot review.
Gameplay & Bonus Features
Mortal Oath is played on a 5-reel, 3-row grid with 9 fixed paylines. Wins are formed by matching 3+ identical symbols from left to right across active paylines. The RTP varies, but at its highest, it is 96.32%, and you can bet between €0.10 and €100 per spin.
The Corrupted Hunter symbol appears only in the base game and acts as a Wild. It expands to cover the entire reel if it contributes to a win, and when it expands, it also displays a random multiplier between 2x and 100x while also containing three empty stacks. Each time it forms part of a winning line, a stack fills; once all three stacks are filled, a respin is awarded, and on this respin, the corrupted hunter remains sticky.
Landing three Scatters triggers the Night of the Hunt bonus. This hold-and-win-style round begins with three lives, and only bonus feature symbols or blanks land during the bonus. The objective is to build a total multiplier, which starts at zero. Bonus Demon symbols are sticky and add to the multiplier, while Yellow Demons contribute 1x to 3x, Blue Demons 4x to 6x, and Green Demons 7x to 9x. If you fill the entire grid with bonus demons, 500x is added to the total multiplier.
There are also a few special symbols that can land during the feature. Collectors gather all visible Bonus Demon multipliers and add them to itself while leaving original values intact, then become sticky, while Gun Ability targets a Bonus Demon and doubles its multiplier up to three times.
Gates of Hell lands with a 5x multiplier that doubles each time another feature symbol appears, while Guardian Statue fills stacks as symbols land; once activated and if all lives are lost, it triggers Divine Retribution, doubling all Bonus Demon multipliers, adding them to the Total Multiplier, clearing sticky symbols and restoring lives to three.
Once all of your lives are gone, the Total Multiplier that you managed to build is awarded.
Bonus Buy/FeatureSpins
Mortal Oath offers several optional purchases:
- BonusHunt FeatureSpins: Costs 3x and makes each spin 5x more likely to trigger a bonus.
- Corrupted Hunter FeatureSpins: Costs 50x and guarantees at least one Corrupted Hunter in the base game.
- Night of the Hunt Bonus: Costs 100x for instant entry into the bonus round.

Theme & Design
Mortal Oath does away with the bright, celebration-inspired theme found in many Asian-inspired slots, and, instead, it chooses to focus on a grim, war-torn landscape filled with demons and ruins; lovely and relaxing, right?
Well, it actually works quite well, and the visual style is, we’d say, moody, and you’ll see dull greys and reds in the backdrop, while supernatural elements appear to flicker across the screen! It shares some similarities with other dark releases like Rise of Samurai Megaways and Rising Samurai but positions itself in a unique way.
Pros
- Win up to 10,000x your bet.
- Expanding Corrupted Hunter Wilds with up to 100x multipliers.
- Pretty action-packed bonus round + special symbols.
Cons
- Only 9 fixed paylines in play.
- Base game wins are pretty small with no multipliers.
- FeatureSpins/Bonus Buy unavailable in some regions.
Final Thoughts
Mortal Oath is a fairly decent debut from Foxhound Games, and it combines a dark, supernatural theme with quite a few mechanics, all of which are designed to reward patience, we feel. The Corrupted Hunter symbol is without a doubt the core “driving force” of the base game, and without it, base game wins are pretty small, and this can feel a little dull, especially considering the 9-payline setup.
Still, if you make it to The Night of the Hunt Bonus, you’ll start to see where the game’s win potential lies. The stacking multipliers, special symbol interactions and Divine Retribution mechanic are pretty interesting, even if it can all be over pretty quickly.
It’s a volatile release and a slightly risky one, given the 9-payline format, but it’s far from being the worst debut we’ve ever seen, and the 10,000x maximum win potential is decent. Still, it’s hard to get away from the fact that it’s VERY Hacksaw Gaming, and there’s nothing massively new here, but for a first release? We’ll take it.
