Game Overview
Slot provider AvatarUX is back with a sequel to the original MonkeyPop: MonkeyPop 2. In this sequel, look out for PopWins, Monkey’s Blessings, a maximum win potential of up to 10,000x, and some superb Asian-inspired graphics!
Theme & Design
AvatarUX’s PopWins series was one of the most innovative since, perhaps, Big Time Gaming released their Megaways engine, and it’s since proven to be incredibly popular. We’ve seen tens of slots released using the “Pop” mechanic, including titles like JuicyPop and, of course, the original MonkeyPop, of which today’s slot, MonkeyPop 2, is a sequel.
Like the original MonkeyPop, MonkeyPop 2 offers a gorgeous Asian-inspired design. The reel backdrop looks like a Japanese painting! You’ll see a cherry blossom tree to the left-hand side of the reels and the floating praying monkey on the right-hand side.
Visually, it’s impressive, there’s no denying that, and in the top left-hand corner of the screen you’ll also be able to view the current multiplier; more on that later.

MonkeyPop 2 Gameplay & Features
MonkeyPop 2 uses AvatarUX’s signature PopWins mechanic, and the game is designed around a five-reel, three-row layout. There are 243 ways to win (initially), and you can wager between €0.10 and €300 per spin. The game’s RTP is set at 96%.
Now, if you’re unfamiliar with how the PopWins mechanic works, each time you form a win, the symbol involved with the win “pops” and is replaced by 2 symbols. This increases the height of the reel, and this is repeated until there are no more wins. The reels can be expanded to 6 symbols tall in the base game and 9 symbols tall in the free spins bonus.
Monkey’s Blessings is a random base game trigger. At the start of any spin, the Monkey can appear and randomly expand the board to its maximum size. A global multiplier is also triggered, which increases by +1 for each hit afterwards in the same spin.
Landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view triggers the main bonus round. Before this begins, you get to play the Choose Your Fortune feature. This allows you to gamble your starting number of Spins, Multiplier, and Ways to try and improve your position. Once you collect, or reach the maximum, the bonus round plays out.
During the bonus round, the multiplier does not reset between spins. If you fully unlock the grid, it also stays unlocked. You can also receive +1 free spin by collecting 3 Bonus Collector symbols.
Bonus Buy & Ante Bet Options
MonkeyPop2 includes some bonus buy options. The Fortune Bonus can be purchased directly for a cost of 60x your stake and offers a random number of starting Ways, Multipliers, and Free Spins. For 250x, you can purchase the Bonus Max feature, which begins with 12 Free Spins, a 10x Multiplier, and the maximum number of Ways.
There is also an Ante Bet option which increases your stake by 1.5x. Doing so increases the chances of you landing the bonus round naturally by 2x.
Pros
- Win up to 10,000x.
- A logical sequel with some additional mechanics.
- Stunning Asian-inspired design.
Cons
- Bonus Buy unavailable in some regions.
- Not that much uniqueness compared to the original.
- PopWins mechanic may feel overdone to some players.
MonkeyPop 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts
MonkeyPop 2 is, visually, a very impressive release from AvatarUX, and it’s a decent sequel to the original MonkeyPop. That said, it doesn’t stray far from familiar territory, and the PopWins mechanic + expanding reels feels quite old now. That’s one of the reasons, we think, AvatarUX has started experimenting with other concepts, to try and move away from simply releasing “Pop” games.
Of course, it’s nice to see the “Choose Your Fortune” and “Monkey’s Blessings” features, but again, there’s nothing we haven’t seen before here. MonkeyPop2 does an excellent job when it comes to presentation. The game looks absolutely super, and the studio has pulled off the East Asian theme perfectly.
Still, it’s not the most amazing slot in the world, and it will likely appeal to those who’ve never played “Pop” games before or for avid, loyal fans of the series. It looks great, is enjoyable (in short bursts), but offers little in the way of real innovation.
