Theme & Design
Monkey Frenzy is set in a city back alley where naughty monkeys have taken control, turning the streets into their own playground. The backdrop features parked cars, overflowing bins, graffiti, and speakers, and, for us, it creates a tongue-in-cheek atmosphere that is clearly designed around mischievous behaviour rather than illegal criminal activity!
Now, while the game didn’t prove to be that successful, Trusty Gaming did decide to follow it up with a sequel: Monkey Frenzy 2: Boss is Here. Whether the sequel will prove more popular remains to be seen. Both games, however, are designed around a high level of quality, like other Trusty Gaming slots, including Sticky Candyland and Grinning Harvest.
Monkey Frenzy Gameplay & Bonus Features
Monkey Frenzy is played on a five-reel, three-row layout. There are 17 fixed paylines in play at all times. Wins are paid from left to right, you can bet from €0.10 to €100 per spin, and the slot runs on a medium volatility profile with an RTP of 96.21%.
The Free Spins feature is triggered by landing three or more Scatter symbols. Three Scatters award 10 free spins, four award 15, and five grant 20, alongside an instant cash prize of up to 10x. Now, during the Free Spins, Monkey Boss Wilds gain the ability to expand and cover an entire reel if doing so can contribute to a winning combination. You can also re-trigger the feature by landing 3+ additional Scatters, and doing so awards +5 free games.

Monkey Frenzy contains a Bonus Buy mechanic, if you live in a region where feature buys are allowed. It costs 100x your base game stake to buy instant entry into the Free Spins bonus.
Pros
- Straightforward gameplay that’s easy to understand.
- Decent Expanding Wilds mechanic.
- Clear, character-driven theme with strong visuals.
Cons
- The base game is pretty bland.
- Very little bonus action beyond the Wilds.
- Feels kind of “pointless” to play given the new Monkey Frenzy 2: Boss is Here release.
Monkey Frenzy Slot Review Final Thoughts
Monkey Frenzy is a slot that never did quite what it promised. Yes, it looks fine, and yes, there are some OK-ish mechanics in place, but that’s about it. The Expanding Wilds feature is something we saw a lot of a decade ago, and for 2025, when this game was released, it just doesn’t really meet the mark, in our opinion.
Now, that’s not to say it’s awful; it certainly has some positives. The Free Spins bonus is decent enough, for example, and the Bonus Buy is also fairly affordably priced at 100x.
Still, with Monkey Frenzy 2: Boss is Here now available, there seems to be little reason to play the original, although if you’re a big fan of the series, we suppose you could make an argument for giving it a try!
