Game Overview
Slot studio Play’n GO’s Mole Digger is a light-hearted mining-themed video slot that does away with the usual beardy miner we’ve become so accustomed to seeing and replaces him, instead, with a cast of cartoon moles! With four fixed jackpots, a hold’n win mechanic, and a maximum win potential of 10,000x, it looks like familiar territory, but is it worth playing? Let’s find out.
Theme & Design
Mole Digger is actually pretty well-designed, and we like how Play’n GO has introduced the cheeky moles, as they look quite adorable and seem to have developed their own personality on the screen as they move around! Weirdly, it slightly reminds us of Dead Canary, from Nolimit City, and also gives off a slight Hugo vibe, too. There are also some similarities to Pragmatic Play’s Mining Rush.
Now, visually, Mole Digger is quite complex. Above the reels you’ll see three pots, Boost, Mystery, and Collect, and to the left-hand side of the screen you’ll see the game’s four fixed jackpots. In the background you’ll see a complete mining setup, including pickaxes, gemstones, shovels, and wooden timber to prevent the mine from collapsing inwards on itself!

Mole Digger Gameplay & Features
Mole Digger is played on a five-reel, four-row layout. There are 25 fixed paylines in play. Betting options range from €0.10 to €100 per spin, and the game offers a default RTP of 96.2%, although, as with all Play’n GO slots today, there are four lower RTP configurations, too.
In the base game you’ll find a Mine Cart feature which triggers whenever one or more carts roll in below the reels. Any cash values displayed directly above a cart are collected instantly, setting up a simple cash collection mechanic.
Now, the game’s core bonus is the Hold’n Win feature, triggered when six or more gem symbols land, or when one or more of the feature pots above the reels becomes filled. Once triggered, the game shifts to a classic hold’n win grid where gems stick, and you are awarded three re-spins. Every new gem resets the counter back to three.
Four gem types can land, each with a different effect. Green gems boost all existing cash values by a random amount, Red gems award higher-paying individual values worth between 10x and 500x, and Blue gems collect all cash values on the grid, while Yellow gems are simply random cash values.
The jackpots can only be won during the feature, too. To win them, you simply need to land a gem displaying the jackpot value. There are four: Mini, worth 15x; Minor, worth 25x; Major, worth 50x; and Grand, worth 500x. The Grand, however, can only be won by filling the entire re-spin grid.
Once the feature ends, the sum of all gemstones/jackpots is added together and then credited to your balance!
Pros
- Win up to 10,000x your bet.
- Unique mole theme/design.
- Jackpots + pot features add excitement.
Cons
- Lower RTP configurations are available.
- Cash pot values are quite small.
- Hold’n Win bonus is quite boring
Mole Digger Slot Review Final Thoughts
Mole Digger is a semi-decent release from Play’n Go, but, unfortunately, we can’t help but feel it’s going to get released and forgotten about. Sure, the theme is quite cool, and it’s nicely presented, but aside from that, everything feels very safe, familiar, and underwhelming.
The Hold’n Win bonus round isn’t the worst in the world, but there is nothing particularly exciting. Sure, while you can theoretically hit wins of up to 10,000x, even the Grand jackpot is capped at just 500x, and let’s be real; how regularly are you even going to have a shot at that?
Of course, if you’re a player who’s loyal to Play’n GO or who enjoys simple, low-to-medium variance mining-themed games with Hold’n Win mechanics, Mole Digger may satisfy you. For most players, however, we don’t feel it will be popular, and we certainly weren’t impressed by it when writing this review.
