Slot Overview

Mirage City is a release from a brand new game studio, Ace Roll, who have partnered with Hacksaw Gaming to develop highly volatile slots! Mirage City is built around expanding Wild reels, fireworks-triggered Respins, and reel multipliers. With a maximum win potential of up to 12,500x, it’s certainly got our attention. Is it any good, though? And is it a worthy first release from the new studio? Find out in this Demoslot review.

Theme & Design

Mirage City is quite uniquely designed, and the game clearly is themed around the Burning Man festival; it’s a desert rave setting, after all! You’ll see glowing neon symbols, fireworks, and a sunset-lit bunch of tents and decorations in the backdrop.

At present, this is only the second Ace Roll slot we’ve reviewed; the other being Eternal Nile. As a result, we haven’t really seen enough of what they’re capable of pushing out to say whether Mirage City is in-line with their usual levels of quality, but yes, it looks good, and yes, if future releases maintain this high standard, we’ll be impressed!

It’s definitely a unique game, and it’s quite hard to think of similar games. Perhaps ITERo comes close, but even then, Mirage City is unique.

Mirage City Gameplay & Bonus Features

Mirage City is played on a 5-reel, 5-row grid with 15 fixed paylines. Bets range from €0.10 to €75 per spin. Wins are formed by landing three to five matching symbols on a payline, and the game offers a slightly above-average RTP of 96.31%.

Now, Wild symbols can land on all five reels. When one does and forms part of a win, the Wild expands to cover the entire reel. Fireworks symbols are also a big part of the game’s mechanics. When one or more fireworks land, firework respins are triggered and continue until no new fireworks appear. Fireworks can either add to reel multipliers (+2 to +5) or multiply them (2x to 5x), with multi-reel fireworks affecting all reels at once. In the base game, once an expanded wild has paid its wins, the reel multiplier resets to 1x.

Landing three scatter symbols triggers the Burning Sky bonus round, which starts you with three lives. The core mechanics mirror the base game, but with two key differences: reel multipliers do not reset when expanded Wilds are used, and Firework symbols refill lives back to three while also increasing the multipliers, up to a maximum of 999x!

Wild symbols also appear more frequently during the free spins, although scatter symbols are removed from the reels entirely. You simply continue spinning until all three of your lives are lost.

Bonus Buy & FeatureSpins

Mirage City includes two optional feature purchases. BonusHunt FeatureSpins cost 3x and increase the appearance rate of Scatters by 5x. You can also buy into the Burning Sky feature for 100x.

Pros

  • Win up to 12,500x.
  • Persistent multipliers during the Burning Sky bonus.
  • Interesting reel-based multipliers in both base game and bonus.

Cons

  • Quite familiar mechanics (especially for Hacksaw fans).
  • Extreme volatility won’t suit every player.
  • Bonus Buy/FeatureSpins unavailable in some regions.

Mirage City Slot Review Final Thoughts

Mirage City is a pretty impressive first release for Ace Roll; it clearly shows a willingness to experiment (even if the game’s mechanics are largely familiar), and we like how they’ve included a decent variety of bonuses and features, from the reel multipliers to the Respins, to the expanding Wilds.

The game’s maximum win potential of 12,500x is also pretty impressive, and, thanks to the reel multipliers, it feels achievable, too. Of course, it’s also a plus point that the game’s powered by Hacksaw Gaming, as it means you can expect the same reliability and functionality you’d get if you were playing an actual Hacksaw game.

Yes, the theme isn’t the most innovative in the world, and no, the graphics aren’t the most amazing - but they are pretty good, and, if we’re totally honest, this is a perfectly respectable debut slot from a new studio. It’s a game we’ll probably have a little go on ourselves when it’s released, too!
