Game Overview

Mighty Wild Gorilla is a video slot from Voltent that offers a huge range of bonuses and features from fixed jackpots and a “Collect to Infinity” feature, to bonus buys, ante bets, and more! Learn all about it in this detailed Mighty Wild Gorilla slot review.

Theme & Design

Voltent aren’t one of the biggest names in the iGaming world (in fact, they’re a software provider many players probably aren’t even familiar with), but they’ve produced a range of video slots, casino table games, and speciality games, with Mighty Wild Gorilla being their most recent release.

Now, of course, gorilla-themed slots are nothing new, and there are a huge variety of titles on the market, like Gorilla Riches and Gorilla Gold Megaways, that have proven to be huge successes.

Mighty Wild Gorilla is pretty well-designed, but one thing that became immediately apparent is the fact that the reels are focused so down and low on the screen! Now, this was because we were writing this review in split-screen, but then when we loaded up the game in a full-screen window, it suddenly became too big, too! So, there’s a bit of work to be done here, we feel!

Graphically, though, Mighty Wild Gorilla looks fine, and the reels are set atop a luscious rainforest, and it’s detailed and well-made. The game’s four non-progressive jackpots are displayed on the right-hand side of the reels, along with the “Chance Level” bets (more on those shortly) displayed on the left-hand side.

Mighty Wild Gorilla Gameplay & Bonus Features

Mighty Wild Gorilla is designed around a 4-reel, 3-row layout, and there’s also an additional top row which contains Collector symbols. The game’s RTP is 96.20%, and you can wager between €0.10 and €1,000 per spin.

You’ll immediately notice that Mighty Wild Gorilla has no regular symbols in the base game, and prizes can only be won in the Bonus Game or through the Cash Out feature. The only symbols that can land on the reels are cash values and jackpots.

Now, when the top row lands Collector symbols, it is assigned a random countdown from 1 to 10. With each spin, the Collect symbol collects all values from the Cash and Jackpot symbols that land on the reels until it reaches 0, at which point it disappears.

Now, to actually receive the amounts collected by the Collector symbols, you need to land a CASH OUT symbol, which can land anywhere bar the top row. When a CASH OUT symbol lands, the Collector’s value above it, on that reel, is paid out and is then reset to 0.

If you have an active Collector symbol and land a Free Spins scatter symbol below it, you’ll trigger the game’s main free spins bonus and receive 10 free spins. During the free spins bonus, any values that the Collector symbols collect are stored and awarded at the end, regardless of whether you land a CASH OUT symbol. If you land a GRAND Jackpot symbol on a reel below an active Collector symbol, you instantly win the game’s max win of 2,500x, too.

There is also a second feature, the Hold The Jackpot bonus game. When triggered, the grid expands to 16 positions, and all game symbols, except multipliers, stick to the reels. 3 re-spins are initially awarded, and each new game symbol that lands resets your re-spin counter to 3. (Game symbols, by the way, are simply cash values or jackpots.)

The four jackpots you can win are the Minor (10x), Minor (20x), Major (50x), and the Grand (2,500x.)

Chance Level

The Chance Level mechanic is an interesting addition which can be enabled during the base game. There are four options: Off, x2, x5, and x10. Chance Level x2 increases your base game stake by 100% and doubles your chances of triggering the free spins bonus. The Chance Level x5 increases your base game stake by 500% and gives you a 5x higher chance of landing the free spins.

Activating Chance Level x10 increases your base game stake by 10x (1,000%) but, in return, gives you a 12x higher chance of triggering the free spins and all other bonus rounds.

Volatility Selector

At the bottom of the screen next to the big “SPIN” button, you will see a small icon containing three chillies. Clicking this adjusts the game’s volatility, and you can select Low, Medium, or High. Unfortunately, the game’s maximum win potential doesn’t change – only the actual volatility.

Pros

  • Adjust your own volatility setting.
  • Multiple bonus rounds.
  • Four non-progressive jackpots.

Cons

  • Low maximum win potential of 2,500x.
  • Very complex to understand.

Mighty Wild Gorilla Slot Review Final Thoughts

Mighty Wild Gorilla is one of those games that feels like it has some potential, but there are simply too many things working against it, in our opinion. Firstly, there’s the design. Sure, the graphics are alright, but the game didn’t scale to our screen size very well, being either way too large or too small.

Secondly, there’s the fact that the game developer has just made it so damn complex to understand what’s going on. Look, we understand English may not be their first language, but there’s no continuity in the game help pages, everything is scattered around, and trying to understand what’s what and how you actually trigger features was a nightmare.

Sure, once you understand how it all works, it makes a bit more sense, but we still feel like there’s too much going on, and the low maximum win potential of just 2,500x makes it all slightly pointless for us; especially given the fact that there’s an adjustable volatility slider - for what!
