Game Overview
As a true gambler, there’s nowhere better to be on earth than Las Vegas. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit several times during my lifetime and have personally enjoyed every second spent there, but my bank balance – not so much. I’ve stayed in many of the top hotel casinos there, including the Luxor, Caesars Palace, and the Venetian, but never the MGM Grand, so I was thrilled when I saw the title of today’s review created by Push Gaming. MGM Grand Gamble is a high volatility, five-reel, six-row slot featuring a huge maximum win of 50,000x and an RTP of 96.13%, which rises slightly to an average of 96.52% if utilising all gamble features.
Vegas is a bustling metropolis full of flashing neon lights, colourful characters, and 24/7 pure punting action. It’s known as the entertainment capital of the world, and for good reason. Let’s hope this creation can do it justice. Events take place on a 5×6 grid, with 50 fixed paylines available. The popular cascading reels mechanic doesn’t feature here, with symbols staying in place if involved in a win, but that doesn’t matter as this game is absolutely packed with game enhancing features. These include mystery symbols, which can either transform into cash values or random symbols, a multiplier element that can reach as high as x10, and a free spins bonus with a tense gamble ladder if you’re brave enough to try it.
Sin City is an expensive place to visit, even more so if you don’t live anywhere near it and have to pay for flights, too. If you’re itching to get involved in the action but are still saving up the pennies to afford the trip, then we’ve got something that will keep you entertained in the meantime. It’s the MGM Grand Gamble demo slot, and it’s free to play below!
Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
MGM has been making some significant business moves in recent years, having acquired Leo Vegas in 2022; they then went on to purchase a majority stake in game provider Push Gaming in mid-2023. As you may be aware, they were the provider that brought smash hits such as Razor Shark and Jammin Jars to market, and it would seem another Push classic has been given an MGM-inspired makeover here to celebrate the union. The original game I’m referring to is, of course, Big Bamboo. Its similarities to MGM Grand are apparent, featuring the same 5×6 grid, 50 paylines, 50,000x maximum win, and even the same RTP ranges of 96.13% – 96.52%. Normally, I would criticise a provider for making a clone of a previous game, but I actually really like the new skin it’s been given here, so I’m not too upset. Next, we’ll look further into the features of MGM Grand Gamble, starting over at that all important pays section.
Checking out the paytable, we can see that there are joint top symbols, the Wild and the Dollar Sign, and matching five of either in a line will award a payout of 150x your total stake. Next, we have the Red Seven at 20x, followed by the final premium symbols, the Green Bell at 16x, and the Blue Horseshoe, which will return 12x your bet. The non-premium symbols on offer are the Cherry, Blueberry, Lemon, and Lime, and these will all pay 0.4x for a winning combination of five.
The stake options on MGM Grand Gamble begin at €0.10 and rise to a high of €20.00. There are over a dozen other options between these, so there should be a suitable bet selection available to most players. The top end is arguably slightly low, but I guess that reflects the game’s top prize of 50,000x, so it doesn’t need to be much higher.
Base Game & Modifiers
Regarding the reel set-up, MGM Grand Gamble uses a 5×6 grid with 50 fixed paylines. These lines are arranged in a slightly unconventional way in my view, so sometimes you’ll think you’ve linked a winning combination and vice versa. All wins are formed by matching a minimum of three, or two in the case of the wild and dollar sign, corresponding symbols from left to right, commencing on the leftmost reel.
Mystery Mgm Symbol
The mystery MGM symbols can land on the grid in the base game and the bonus round. They will open to reveal either a random paying symbol from the paytable, wild symbols, or grand gamble symbols. If grand gamble symbols land, then its feature will be triggered.
Grand Gamble Feature
When grand gamble symbols are revealed through the mystery MGM symbols, each of them will spin through a series of different prizes, which are the following:
- Instant Prize Symbol: Bet value multiplier prizes, which can be 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, 500x, 1,000x, 2,500x, or 5,000x.
- Multiplier Symbol: This will multiply the value of all other instant prize symbols that have landed by x2, x3, x5, or x10.
- Collector Symbol: Collects all other values that have landed as part of the grand gamble feature, emptying their positions. The empty positions will then spin through the list of prizes again.
Mgm Grand Gamble Slot Bonus Features
The scatter symbol is only available on reels two, three, and four during the base game and free spins feature, but during the grand gamble feature they can appear in any grid position. To trigger the free spins, you will need to land two scatter symbols followed by a gamble scatter symbol. This gamble scatter will spin through a list of possible free spins prizes and either land one of them to award the relevant feature or land on a blank space, which means no bonus.
- The possible free spin prizes are as follows: 4 to 9 spins with no dots, 7 to 9 spins with two dots, or 8 to 10 spins with all four dots.
- The number of dots relates to the number of non-premium symbols converted to mystery MGM symbols and the associated multiplier.
Gamble Feature
If players are unhappy with the free spins set-up they have been awarded, they can gamble for an enhanced set-up. This gamble can potentially result in the loss of the bonus.
Free Spins
During the free spins feature, the multiplier will apply its current value to any prize value amounts revealed during the feature. The first symbol converted will award a x2 multiplier, the second symbol x3, the third x5, and the fourth and final will award x10. Every four scatter symbols that land during the bonus will upgrade the next dot and award +3 free spins. The grand gamble symbols can land during the bonus and will award either +1, +2, or +3 additional free spins.
Bonus Buy
A bonus buy feature is available for those in the appropriate jurisdictions. There are four options to choose from, and these are:
- 7-9 Free Spins with no symbols converted – 99x.
- 7-9 Free Spins with two symbols converted – 179x.
- 8-10 Free Spins with all four symbols converted – 608x.
- Mystery Free Spins: A randomly chosen feature from the above three options – 300x.
Pros
- There is a variety of bonuses to play for.
- High max win of 50,000x and strong RTP.
Cons
- Some won't like that it’s a copy of Big Bamboo.
- The low top stake of €20.00.
Mgm Grand Gamble Slot Review Final Thoughts
Clearly, this is a clone of Big Bamboo, and I’m conscious that some people won't like that. I would normally agree, as lack of originality does irritate me, but I’m going to give MGM Grand Gamble a pass as I actually prefer the theme and skin it’s been given over Big Bamboo. It’s a great game in either variation, so it will come down to personal preference. That’s why I won’t split them in terms of score.
