Game Overview
Journey inside a long-lost Aztec tomb and look out for multiplier increases on every win, “unique wilds”, and a maximum win potential of up to 10,000x your bet in MexoMax 2, a new release from Yggdrasil Gaming.
Theme & Design
Yggdrasil Gaming’s slots are almost always designed to a very high level of quality, and MexoMax 2 is no exception. The reels appear to be set deep within the South American jungle, and the game itself takes place in a long-lost temple.
The game’s played on a 6×6 grid, and it uses a cluster pays mechanic, so wins are formed by landing “clusters” of five or more symbols anywhere in view. There are a total of 8 regular paying symbols and three Wilds.
If it’s only just dawned on you that this is a sequel and you want to try out the original game, then head over to our MexoMax demo, where you can enjoy unlimited gameplay.

MexoMax 2 Gameplay & Features
There are a lot of bonuses and features in MexoMax 2, and the first is the Avalanche Feature. Any wins you form trigger this bonus, and winning symbols then disappear from the reels, leaving room for new ones to drop down to take their place. Each time this feature triggers, a randomly selected wild is added to one of the winning positions before the avalanche feature, too.
Now, you’ll also see that above each reel there’s a dedicated multiplier, beginning at 1x. Each time a wild symbol lands on that reel, it increases the multiplier’s value by 1x, and in the base game, these multipliers reset after a losing spin. During the free spins, however, the multipliers do not reset.
As mentioned, there are also three different types of wild symbols. There’s a normal wild, with no special bonus effect; the WildEnergy Wild, which stays on the screen for up to 4 spins; and the Extra Multiplier Wild, which applies a random multiplier value of between 2x and 50x to any wins it helps to form.
MexoMax 2 also contains localised jackpots, known as Grand Prizes, and these are worth 15x, 25x, 500x, and 1,000x. Each time a high-paying symbol lands while displaying a sub-symbol, there’s a chance to win one of the corresponding Grand Prizes associated with it.
Any non-winning spin in MexoMax 2 also has a chance to trigger a random feature, including Hand of the Gods, which turns a random number of non-winning symbols into winning ones, and Temple Wind, which picks a random row of symbols and turns them into winning ones.
Finally, MexoMax 2 also includes a free spins bonus round. This is triggered by landing 3+ scatter symbols anywhere in view. You then receive between 7 and 11 free spins. During these free spins, the multiplier values above the reels do not reset.
Golden Bet and Bonus Buy
Like many Yggdrasil Gaming slots, MexoMax 2 also contains a Golden Bet. For an increased price of 1.2x your bet, you can toggle this option, which increases your chances of triggering the free spins bonus. You can also pay between 100x and 200x to trigger the free spins bonus round instantly using the bonus buy mechanic.
Pros
- Loads of bonuses and features.
- Localised jackpots are available.
- Golden Bet + Bonus Buy options.
Cons
- Below-average RTP.
- Bonus buy unavailable in some markets.
- Jackpots aren’t progressive
MexoMax 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts
With solid graphics, tonnes of bonuses and features, and a decent maximum win potential of 10,000x, MexoMax 2 looks like a pretty solid game, and, like almost all Yggdrasil Gaming releases, it’s a lot of fun to play. The mechanics may not all be new, but they’re delivered in a way that makes them feel unique, and there’s a LOT going on, both in the base game and the main bonus round.
We like the fact that there’s a bonus buy option and an Extra Bet toggle, so you don’t need to sit through the base game if you don’t want to. Pretty much our only real complaint is the fact that the game’s RTP is below average, coming in at 94%. Still, for today’s day and age, that’s not terrible, but it’s something to be aware of.
Overall, however, MexoMax 2 is a good game, and it’s well worth a play if you’re looking for something new to try out!
