Game Overview

Merge Up 2 is a sequel to BGaming’s original Merge Up slot, and this time, the concept is back, bigger and better than before. Enjoy symbol upgrades, higher symbol payouts, cluster pays, and a maximum win potential that’s now doubled up to 10,000x!

Theme & Design

We’re always a sucker for calming candy-inspired slots, and while there’s plenty available, think Sticky Candyland and Sugar Rush 1000, there’s always a gap in the market for new games, especially when these new games introduce new mechanics.

Visually, Merge Up 2 looks fantastic. The reels are superimposed on top of a turquoise background. There are some moving shades in the background, and it works really well; BGaming has really outdone itself here and started to pivot their games into the 21st century (finally!)

Merge Up 2 Gameplay & Features

Like the original Merge Up, Merge Up 2 is designed around a 6×6 grid layout. You can bet between £0.25 and £10 per spin, and the standard autoplay and turbo mode options are available.

Now, where Merge Up 2 differs quite a lot from the original is in its bonuses and features. There’s a lot more going on here, and first up is the bomb symbol. When a winning cluster is formed from symbols of the 8th level, 1 bomb symbol is created. Once it explodes, it destroys 8 symbols around it, increasing the multipliers in these cells.

Like the original, Merge Up 2 also has a symbols merge bonus. When four or more symbols form a cluster win, some of the winning symbols disappear, with the others becoming the symbols of the next level.

Now, we already mentioned how an 8th symbol level win causes a bomb to form. What we didn’t mention is that the bomb also transforms into a scatter symbol, a minimum of three of which are required to trigger the game’s main bonus round.

There are three types of free spins bonus in Merge Up 2, and the standard round plays normally, while the 2x Multiplier round sees all cells starting with a 2x multiplier. In the Super Bonus, the third free spins option, between 3 and 9 bombs appear at the beginning of the bonus. These bombs then explode, with multipliers moving to random cell positions.

Buy Bonus + x2 Chance

Merge Up 2 allows you to buy instant access to all three free spins bonuses. The standard bonus round costs 100x, the x2 multipliers round costs 250x, and the Super Bonus costs 500x. There is also a x2 side bet which increases your stake by 0.2x. In return, your odds of landing the bonus round naturally double.

Pros

  • Win up to 10,000x.
  • A well-executed sequel.
  • Relaxing gameplay and soothing animations.

Cons

  • Bonus buy isn't available in all regions.
  • similar to many other slots already on the market.

Merge Up 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts

Sequels are risky business these days. We’ve seen some slot providers smash their sequel attempts: NetEnt’s Dead or Alive II springs to mind. On the other hand, we’ve seen some trainwreck attempts: Gonzo’s Quest Megaways, for example, or some of the later Moon Princess releases.

BGaming has, with Merge Up 2, we feel, done a pretty solid job. The game offers everything we want from a sequel: increased win potential, more bonuses and features, and familiar gameplay.

We like the fact that there are now three bonus buy options available, and the fact that the maximum win potential has increased to 10,000x... well, that’s going to please most players! So, on the whole, this is a good effort we feel, and a game that’s well-worth checking out, especially if you were a fan of the original!
