Game Overview

Casino game provider Play’n GO are back with another instalment in their “Megadon” series, and Megadon Triple Threat is a 5×4 slot designed around shark-powered modifiers, three unique free-spin modes, and a max win of 25,000x, the biggest win potential in the Megadon series to date. Is it any good? Find out in this detailed review!

Theme & Design

Shark-themed slots have always been quite popular, but surprisingly few game developers actually have any of their own. Play’n GO’s Megadon Triple Threat follows two previous releases, Megadon and Megadon Feeding Frenzy, and both proved fairly popular with players, too.

Like its predecessors, Megadon Triple Threat’s reels sit below the ocean surface, as though you’re floating with a snorkel watching predators circle below. You can see coral, anchors, and ship’s wheels on the seabed below, and the sharks on the reels are vibrant, eye-catching, and well-designed.

Megadon Triple Threat Gameplay & Bonus Features

Megadon Triple Threat runs on the familiar 5-reel, 4-row, 1,024-ways-to-win layout that all three games in the series have used. You can stake between €0.10 and €100 per spin, and the RTP peaks at 96.2%, although, as with most Play’n GO releases, lower RTP versions exist depending on the casino you decide to play at.

Unusually for a video slot today, Megadon Triple Threat’s base game offers virtually no modifiers, so most of the excitement comes from filling the Hangry Meters and triggering one of the three Shark Feasts.

Coloured scatter symbols are the key here, and blue scatters feed the Mega Don meter, green feeds the Hammerhead meter, and orange charges the Leopard meter. Once enough scatters are collected, the corresponding Shark Feast can trigger, awarding 8 free spins and activating the shark’s unique mechanic.

The Leopard Feast is the simplest. Once triggered, on each spin, the Leopard shark appears and eats between one and five small fish symbols across reels 2-5, upgrading them into Leopard Wilds. This is the only Feast that cannot retrigger.

The Hammerhead Feast focuses, instead, on wild multipliers. The shark eats any Electric Eel wild that lands and upgrades it to a Hammerhead Wild with a 2x multiplier. If multiple Hammerhead Wilds form part of the same win, their multipliers add together, too.

When the Mega Don Feast triggers, one random small fish is selected as “active”. Whenever that active small fish appears, Mega Don eats it and upgrades it into a Mega Don premium symbol. This Feast can retrigger when three blue scatters land, awarding +3 free spins and activating an additional small fish, up to six in total, with a maximum of 30 spins. The goal here, clearly, is to reach the latter stages and have as many low-value fish transformed as possible.

Pros

  • Win up to 25,000x.
  • Three unique free spins modes.
  • Wild multipliers and symbol upgrades.

Cons

  • The base game is very empty and feels slow.
  • No bonus buy option.
  • Lower RTP versions of the game are available.

Megadon Triple Threat Slot Review Final Thoughts

Megadon Triple Threat is Play’n GO’s third instalment in its “Megadon” series, and as we’d have expected, it offers a higher maximum win potential, sharper upgrade mechanics, and three different free spins modes. Still, we can’t help but feel the provider has slightly missed the boat here. The base game feels insanely empty; if you don’t trigger the Feasts, there’s literally nothing going on, and even when the features do trigger, they can often end up paying very little.

Yes, if you hit the Mega Don Feast feature and manage to transform three or four fish, you can start getting close to the game’s massive wins, but getting anywhere close to the 25,000x maximum win potential is going to be very hard in the other two features, we feel, and there’s just not enough “newness” here for us.

However, Megadon Triple Threat is a decent-looking game, and the 25,000x max win cap will tempt in fans of the previous two Megadon games. If you do decide to have a spin, just try to make sure you’re playing the highest RTP version of the game possible.
