Slot Overview

Magic Piggy OG is Hacksaw Gaming’s “follow-up?” to their hugely successful Magic Piggy, and, to be honest, we’re not entirely sure what the goal was here. The graphics are pretty much identical, the mechanics the same, and the maximum win potential is actually lower; 2,500x. So, what exactly is going on here, and is it worth playing? Let’s find out.

Gameplay & Bonus Features

Magic Piggy OG is played on a five-reel, three-row layout with 17 fixed paylines. The RTP, like most Hacksaw Gaming slots, is variable but runs at a default 96.2%, and you can bet between €0.05 and €400 per spin.

Like the original, the main mechanic is the Magic Piggy symbol, which acts as a revealing symbol when activated by the Magic Hat. When the hat lands, it shows what all Magic Piggy symbols will become. They then transform into the same symbol type. These reveals can produce standard wilds or Bill Stack symbols, the latter of which triggers a second feature.

The Bill Stack symbols work as scatter-style cash values based on your current bet level, and when won, all values in view are added together before being multiplied by your total bet. There’s also a random feature; when triggered, a Magic Piggy appears and produces Multiplier Coins, with values of 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x. These multipliers apply to one to five Bill Stack symbols.

Again, like the original, the Free Spins bonus is delivered in two parts. The Pig Bonus is triggered by landing 3 FS scatter symbols and awards 10 free spins. During this feature, Magic Piggy symbols reveal Bill Stack or Multiplier Coin symbols when the Magic Hat lands, while Star and Super Star symbols collect Piggy Points above the reels. Filling all Piggy Point meters at the same time awards 10 extra free spins, and extra FS symbols during the feature can also award extra free games.

The Epig Bonus is triggered by 4 FS scatter symbols and also starts you with 10 free spins, and here, it introduces Piggy Points. These don’t reset after a Magic Hat Trigger, and that, again, is identical to the original game’s enhanced bonus.

Bonus Buy

Magic Piggy OG includes a few Bonus Buy options, if you live in a region where you’re allowed to buy features. You can buy into the Pig Bonus and Epic Bonus Bonus rounds for 100x and 250x respectively – so it’s a familiar Hacksaw format on display here – once again.

Theme & Design

Magic Piggy OG looks virtually identical to the original 2023 Hacksaw Gaming release, Magic Piggy, and you’ll see the reels set within a bank vault filled with gold coins.

We actually really don’t know what else to write here, because it truly is identical; the only difference that we can spot is the addition of the “OG” under the game’s name on the left-hand side of the reels; other than that? It’s the same game in our eyes, aside from, of course, the 5×3 reel setup as opposed to the 5×4 seen in the original.

Now, if you liked the original or enjoy pig-themed slots like Piggy Riches Megaways, then, yes, you might like Magic Piggy OG. But even then, the question remains; why would you play this version over the original? It’s got a lower maximum win potential, and it just doesn’t make sense.

Pros

  • If you like pigs, you might like the graphics

Cons

  • Terrible, lazy release; unoriginal boring
  • Max win of just 2,500x
  • RTP can drop to as low as 94.18%

Final Thoughts

Magic Piggy OG is one of the worst slots we’ve ever reviewed, and we don’t say that lightly. Yes, if the original Magic Piggy didn’t exist, it would be an OK game, but even then, we’d say it was boring, and, with a max win capped at 2,500x, pointless.

We’re not sure whether Hacksaw Gaming needed to reach a slot-release target by one and ended up releasing this just to meet that target or whether someone in their development team decided to get revenge for something, but this is just total crap and a game that should be avoided at all costs out of principle if nothing else.

There is nothing new, nothing original, nothing unique, and, frankly, nothing fun, especially when compared to the original, and all you get here is a smaller set of reels and a lower maximum win potential, so, if that appeals to you, sure, go have a spin!
