Slot Overview

Lucy Luck and the Quest for Coins is a high-volatility adventure slot from Slotmill, and the action unfolds on a large 6×6 grid, with Cluster Pays, Avalanche Wins, a Collect Meter, Coins and Wilds, Free Spins, Super Free Spins… are you getting the gist? This game is packed with action, and with a maximum win potential of 20,000x, it looks solid. How did it stand up to our testing? Find out here.

Theme & Design

Slotmill is clearly leaning into a cinematic-style “explorer in the ruins” vibe here, dropping Lucy into a pretty serene Mesoamerican landscape with a vine-covered temple, misty waterfalls, and sunlit greenery surrounding the 6×6 grid.

The reels themselves are set in stone, and the idea, we think, is that you’re basically chiselling away at blockers to uncover hidden treasure. If you’re a fan of slots like Lost Relics 2 or Coin Quest, you’ll probably feel right at home here, both in terms of visuals and mechanics.

Lucy Luck & The Quest For Coins Gameplay & Bonus Features

Lucy Luck and the Quest for Coins is played on a 6×6 grid, and it uses a cluster pays mechanic, so wins require 5+ symbols to win. Stakes run from €0.10 to €100, and an optional Xtra Bet can increase the stake up to €200. The game’s RTP is listed as 96.15% on the default version, with a lower 94.02% version also available.

Now, Lucy Luck and the Quest for Coins uses an Avalanche mechanic, so any wins see the winning symbols removed from the reels, and new ones drop down to take their place. You’ll also see Gold Coins, which display a multiplier value. When 5+ Coins connect, you’re paid the combined total.

Above the reels you’ll also see a Collect Meter. This charges during winning sequences by the number of symbols involved, and hitting thresholds within the same chain can increase the win multiplier and also add extra Coins/Wilds onto the board. Charge Symbols can also appear to add extra progress, and there’s a random Multiplier Boost that can jump-start the meter and multiplier at the beginning of a spin, too.

Now, at the start of each spin, random positions are covered by stone tiles. Winning combos break these tiles away. This, sometimes, exposes a Treasure Chest underneath, which awards a modifier like extra meter charges, multiplier boosts, additional Wilds, more Coins, or a Bonus symbol.

The Bonus Game is triggered by collecting Bonus symbols in the base game; 3 for Free Spins and 4 for Super Free Spins. Both modes award 8 free games, and there’s a progress-like mechanic in play here: destroyed blocks don’t reset until all chests are revealed, and the multiplier/meter builds throughout the feature, too.

Fast Track Feature Buy & Xtra Bet

Slotmill’s Fast Track menu offers a few feature buy options. This allows you to buy directly into the Free Spins/Super Free Spins and some Xtra Bet options that allow you to increase your base game stake in return for things like adding more Bonus symbols to the reels.

Pros

  • Decent max win of 20,000x.
  • Good relationships between bonuses and features.
  • Super Free Spins can pay really well.

Cons

  • Two RTP versions of the game are available.
  • Xtra Bet and Fast Track can get expensive quickly at higher stakes.
  • Highly volatile in both base game and bonus.

Lucy Luck & The Quest For Coins Slot Review Final Thoughts

Lucy Luck and the Quest for Coins feels like Slotmill taking a proven cluster mechanic and making it more “adventure-game” in how it progresses, with blockers and treasure chests offering some decent entertainment in both the base game and the bonus round. Yes, it’s definitely borrowed elements from NetEnt’s Lost Relics, but Slotmill has, in our opinion, done more than enough to make it unique, and we actually like how they’ve built on the mechanics.

Most will agree, it’s not perfect: volatility is unapologetically high, and the best moments come when the Collect Meter and chest rewards start feeding each other, which can be pretty rare. Still, if you do manage to get those “connections”, things can kick off quickly, even in the base game, so that maximum win potential of 20,000x actually seems attainable (which is NOT something that can be said for all video slots released today!)

Sure, it won’t suit everyone, and it’s very volatile, but still, if you enjoy modern cluster slots with persistent progression and “unlockable” bonuses, this is a strong choice, and it’s one we’ll be playing ourselves once it’s released, that’s for sure!
