Game Overview
Skywind are still building their reputation as a creator of online slots – their catalogue is quite small compared to some other developers. You never know what to expect from Skywind right now, and their Lord of the Spins video slot is an excellent example of an up-and-coming developer producing an innovative and interesting online slot. Th game has 50 paylines, a maximum win of 500x your stake from a single spin, but surprisingly the games RTP is lower than average at just 95%.
There are several interesting features in Lord of the Spins online slot. The wild is a special symbol here, and a full pay line of these symbols will return 500x your bet in both the base game and free spins bonus. Scatter symbols need to land consecutively to trigger the free spins feature, but when you do you will be rewarded with locked wild reels, sticky wilds, and the opportunity to retrigger the feature by landing just two more scatter symbols.
This is an interesting game that really demands you give it a try in free play mode before you start to spin with real money. Thankfully, we have a free demo slot of the Lord of the Spins slot game available right here in our review.
Lord Of The Spins Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
The slot looks good, though the music was not to my taste and I soon decided to mute it and listen to something else whilst I was reviewing the game. The title – “Lord of the Spins” is extremely reminiscent of a certain popular film franchise. I’m sure you can guess which one. The symbols and overall design have all been drawn to suggest some link between this slot and those epic magic-focused movies, but of course, Skywind has no license here – hence the name being close, but not quite what you would expect.
The payline setup is extremely strange – take a look at the paytable and you will see that the 50 lines offered by Lord of the Spins video slot are not in any kind of regular configuration. The numbers on the paytable relate to the number of coins you win when you hit the respective combinations – if you are playing pennies, six wilds on a line returns 500x your stake. After that, there is a strange symbol which pays 400x. There are two characters – male and female, who both pay 300x for a full line of six. In short – there is plenty of potential from the picture symbols in the Lord of the Spins slot game, but only if you hit a six of a kind win.
The minimum bet here is €0.50, which is quite high and may put some players off giving this game a try. For some reason, the demo version of the game insists on using Japanese Yen regardless of what country you are playing from. The demo allows you to bet up to ¥2,500 per spin, which is roughly €20. It’s possible that this game will allow lower bets when playing for real money, but we were not able to find a version that used Euros to verify this.
Base Game & Modifiers
Whilst the RTP of Skywind’s Lord of the Spins video slot is well below average at just 95%, the big hits on the paytable go some way to making up for this. It’s always nice when the base game has plenty of potential so your whole session isn’t spent hoping for the scatters. That said, the scatters do increase your chances of lining up those six-of-a-kind wins, so you will be hoping to catch them – it’s just nice that a decent share of the RTP has been allocated to the base game too.
Re-spin Feature
When you catch a full stack of wilds on the first reel, Lord of the Spins will give you three free re-spins during which any wilds that land on the remaining reels will be sticky and stay in place for the duration of the re-spins. This is a nice feature but don’t expect no crazy Dead or Alive style hits from this feature – the large 6×4 playing area with its weird line layouts limits the potential of the feature somewhat.
Lord Of The Spins Slot Bonus Features
In Lord of the Spins video slot, the scatter symbols have two conditions attached to them before they will award you the free games feature. Firstly, the scatters must be on consecutive reels to count, and secondly, the scatters must be fully in view as well. This can lead to a lot of frustration – three scatters on non-consecutive reels? Non bonus. Three scatters on consecutive reels but you can’t see the very top portion of the three-symbol high scatter? No bonus. It does make you wonder why this was necessary and probably accounts for a decent chunk of the RTP this game is missing compared to most slots.
Free Games Feature
Meet all the aforementioned conditions and you will be rewarded with an interesting – but not explosive – free spins feature. You get seven free spins with reel one locked as a full-height wild, and other reels randomly turning into wild reels as well as the game dictates. If the feature had sticky wilds like the re-spin feature, I would say this was a killer bonus round and well worth waiting for … but as it stands, it just misses that mark. You can at least retrigger the feature with scatters on reels two and three during your free spins… but good luck with that. I never saw it happen out of more than 10 features.
Lord Of The Spins Slot Review Final Thoughts
Going back to what we said at the beginning, Skywind are still finding their feet in this industry, but they are trying new things all the time unlike some of the more established slot providers. If I have to play another Extra Chilli clone as long as I live, I’m jumping out the window… someone please spare me.
Skywind? You’re real close with this one guys. Just get that RTP up to 97%, drop the ridiculous scatter requirements and add sticky wilds to the main feature, and you would have had a contender for slot of the year on your hands.
