Game Overview
If the Dream Drop progressive jackpot was an old-style video game, what level do you think it’d reached by now? You’d have to say Level 27, considering this is the 27th slot we’ve reviewed that features Relax Gaming’s lucrative jackpots. One thing is for sure, there is no ‘Game Over’ in sight, and in fact, the developer could still get the top score if it keeps adding to its collection at the rate it is. Why all the video game references? The latest slot, Line Busters Dream Drop, is a retro slot themed in a video arcade full of 8-bit coin slot games. In fact, the slot itself is one of those arcade machines, with the reels on the screen looking like a cross between the Space Invaders and Asteroids games. Underneath the innovative styling is a 3-reel, 5-row, and 5 payline slot with a 94% RTP, 5,000x max local win, and, of course, those jackpots that could pay millions.
The core stats suggest there’s not going to be too much going on as you spin the reels of Line Busters, and you’ll quickly find that to be the case. The base game is interesting due to the unconventional reel format and a unique payout mechanic that requires you to hit consecutive arrows and then avoid a block symbol to land a win. Aside from that, there’s not much else to talk about apart from possible win multipliers up to 10x and a free spins bonus that is no different from the base game spins.
Could you get lucky enough to scoop millions from a progressive jackpot? Well, you won’t find out on the free-to-play Line Busters Dream Drop slot demo below, as only real money spins count, but at least you’ll be able to see if the slot is worth playing for real cash.
Line Busters Dream Drop Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
There are a few developers that have brought back memories by using 8-bit graphics on slot releases, with our Nolimit City demo page containing a couple of recent releases, notably Brainsnake 2000, which has a snake-style free spins feature. You’ll find a good selection over at the Relax Gaming demo page too, and long before the creation of Line Busters, the developer gave us titles such as Hellcatraz and Banana Town, both of which featured a similar graphical style. There are Dream Drop versions of those games, too, if you happen to enjoy them and want to try your luck on them for one of those juicy progressive jackpots.
Although the theme has a retro feel, there is nothing classic about the reel matrix and how the payouts are formed. You win a payout when Arrow symbols land on the the same row of reels one and two, and the third symbol along is not a Rock (Blocker/Blank). However, if a regular-paying symbol lands on the end of two arrows, you receive a payout. The top-paying symbols are the Blue, Green, and Yellow box symbols, which return a maximum of 10x, 75x, and 150x the bet, respectively. As for the low pays, the Red Alien returns 0.6x, while the Green Alien tops out at 0.4x, and the Blue Alien is worth 0.2x.
The betting range presents players of all sized budgets with numerous entry points to spin the reels on Line Busters Dream Drop for real money. These begin at a minimum of €0.10 and reach a maximum of €100.
Line Busters Dream Drop Slot Base Game
As I alluded to previously, there’s not much going on in the base game, but there are at least some win multipliers, so let’s look at what these are and how they work.
Multiplier Arrows
The symbols from the paytable could get boosted by win multipliers of up to 10x. The arrow symbols on the reels can hold multiplier values of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, and 10x. The value of the multiplier is applied to the payout associated with the symbol on the third reel.
Line Busters Dream Drop Slot Bonus Features
Before I get into the main features of Line Busters Dream Drop, I should point out there are two versions of this slot. I’m reviewing the Dream Drop version, but there’s another without the jackpots. That has a 96.10% RTP and is essentially the same slot with the same bonus game and buy bonus features, just without the DD jackpots.
Free Spins
If a free spins symbol lands on the end of two Arrows, you trigger the free spins bonus. The number of spins you receive depends on whether the free spins symbol has a value of 3, 4, or 5 and whether there were multiplier values on the arrows before it. If the latter is the case, the multiplier will apply to the free spins. It’s also possible to win additional free spins in this way during the bonus.
Dream Drop Jackpot
Although more of a spin than a bonus game, the Dream Drop Jackpot Game could reward you with one of the five progressive jackpots. You could randomly receive a spin of three reels, and if symbols land on the first two reels and then the Rapid, Midi, Maxi, Major, or Mega Jackpot symbols land on the third reel, you scoop the current jackpot. The size of these jackpots continues to grow from every spin placed by players around the world and seed at €1, €5, €100, €25,000, or €500,000, respectively.
Bonus Buy
If you’d rather skip past the base game to take your chances with the free spins bonus, you can use the bonus buy feature. It costs 40x your current stake and triggers the bonus on the next spin.
Pros
- Rolls back the years for those that remember the old style video games.
Cons
- Not much in the way of features.
Line Busters Dream Drop Slot Review Final Thoughts
Despite the unorthodox reel format and payout mechanics, Line Busters is a simple slot at its core. I imagine it will pique the interest of those who want something a bit different when gunning for the Dream Drop jackpots, but I prefer something more substantial so that I have a bit of fun along the way.
