Game Overview
Lava Lock is a video slot from Gaming Arts, developed along with Blueprint Gaming, and it’s based around the Polynesian princess, Pele. Look out for cash-on-reels symbols, free spins, and jackpots, and win as much as 5,312x your bet!
Theme & Design
Lava Lock is themed all around Pele, a little-known Polynesian princess that’s known for being the fiery goddess of volcanoes and passion. This oddly designed video slot from Gaming Arts/Blueprint Gaming looks OK, but it’s not the best, in our opinion. The reels themselves are set between totem poles, and there’s dense jungle foliage on either side.
Pele herself sits atop the reels, with fire burning from one hand, and her seductive-looking body flowing along to the game’s soundtrack. It all looks OK, but it’s a bit low-key, and the text – especially on the jackpot values at the top – looks quite… rushed, shall we say.Still, if you’re a fan of this theme of the game, you may also enjoy playing Tiki Pop by AvatarUX and Volcano Goddess from Pragmatic Play.

Lava Lock Gameplay & Bonus Features
Lava Lock is designed around a familiar-looking five-reel, three-row layout, and there are 30 fixed paylines in play at all times. The game’s default RTP is a bit below average, at 95%, and you can spin the reels for between €0.30 and €45 per spin.
There’s a fair bit of bonus action in Lava Lock, and the first modifier to look out for is the Pele wild symbol. She appears on the middle reel only (in the middle position) and substitutes for all paying symbols. When this symbol lands, it can collect any cash prize symbols in view, trigger the Volcano Bonus, and trigger the Pele Spins.
Now, during any spin, the Pele character can also award an in-game modifier that guarantees a win. This includes Cash Add, which adds Cash Prize or Volcano symbols to the reels, Pele Add, adding the Pele symbol onto the middle reel, as discussed above, and Hammer Strike, which upgrades the reels.
Landing the Pele symbol with any locked symbols will award the outcome shown. The available locked symbols are cash prizes (literal cash amounts), jackpots, or volcanoes.
The Volcano Feature is triggered when the Pele symbol and the Volcano symbol land together, and one spin is then awarded with the Pele symbol locked in position. Random positions are then transformed into Cash Prize symbols. Once all these have been added, the reels will again spin. Any new Cash Prize symbols are collected and then paid.
Finally, there’s the Pele Spins, triggered by landing the Pele symbol in view with one or two Tiki Heads above the reels. One Tiki Head awards 6 Pele Spins, while two Tiki Heads awards 12 Pele Spins.
During the Pele Spins, the Pele symbol remains locked in the middle position for the duration of the bonus, meaning any Cash Prize symbols landing in view are automatically collected. After each spin, the Pele symbol can also randomly trigger one or both Tiki Heads to award 6 or 12 extra spins.

Lava Lock Slot Review Final Thoughts
Lava Lock may be one of the hardest slot games we’ve reviewed this year. Not because it’s overly complex - especially when compared to some of the releases we see from the likes of Nolimit City, but more because Gaming Arts/Blueprint Gaming simply did such a terrible job of explaining how things work in the game’s rules.
The fact is, the mechanics do come across as complex, and there is a lot going on. It just feels like too much, especially for a game which, at its core, is a glorified Hold & Win/Cash Collection slot. Sure, there are some interesting additions like the Pele symbol, but for us, it’s too complicated and too poorly explained, and then, add in the below-average RTP of 95% and fairly low maximum win potential of 5,312x, and it’s hard to see many reasons to give Lava Lock a try.
