Game Overview

Slot provider Shady Lady is back with Laced, a slot that is again controversial, this time flirting with a 420 (weed) theme! There’s a lot going on, from mystery symbols and cascading wins to Shady Lady’s signature “shop” and a maximum win potential of up to 20,000x! Learn all about it here in our detailed slot review!

Theme & Design

Laced is themed all around The Dude, who appears as a totally zoned-out stoner who spends his days eating snacks and waving around a very (funnily) oversized joint. Now, don’t get us wrong: he’s so high, he’s hardly even aware that he’s on the screen, but it certainly sets the scene for the gameplay that’s going to follow!

Visually, it’s quite interesting, and it looks and feels quite similar to The Rave, with some of the chaos seen in a Nolimit City release like San Quentin. It also fits with previous Shady Lady releases, like Devil’s Finger, in terms of the controversial look and feel!

Laced Gameplay & Bonus Features

Laced uses a 5×6 layout and there are no paylines, as the game uses a 7,776 ways-to-win mechanic. You can bet between €0.10 and €50, and the highest RTP option is 96.12%, but as is the case with all Shady Lady releases, lower RTP configurations are available, too.

Now, after forming a win, the cascade mechanic triggers, and this sees winning symbols removed from the reels, with new ones dropping down to take their place. The core mechanic, however, comes from the Burning Buds. Whenever a Lighter symbol lands, it triggers a range of modifiers. A random number of buds on the screen then ignite, and all burnt Buds then reveal a mystery symbol. Some Buds can even light additional Lighters, which can then trigger a second burn.

Next, you’ll find Laced Buds, which are, essentially, upgraded blockers with special rewards. Purple Buds reveal 1×1-sized Purple Elephants with multipliers of 1x, 2x, and 3x, or Gold Buds that reveal 2×2 Golden Elephants with multipliers of 1x, 5x, 10x, or 100x. These elephants turn into wild symbols when they land, before the multiplier is applied to any wins.

Now, there are two bonus rounds. The standard Bonus Game is triggered by landing 3 scatter symbols. The Super Bonus Game is triggered by landing 4 scatter symbols. Doing so awards you with 6 and 8 free spins respectively. In both modes, you’ll find more Laced Buds on the reels and a higher number of Lighters, and in the Super Bonus Game, the frequency of both modifiers is increased further.

Shady Lady Store

Like most Shady Lady releases, Laced contains a number of bonus buy/Loot Box options:

  • Standard Bonus: 74x
  • Super Bonus: 237x
  • Bronze Bonus: 347x
  • Silver Bonus: 347x
  • Gold Bonus: 1,596x

You can also buy the best three results from 100/300, or 500 spins. The Loot Boxes can be purchased for things like Bonus Boosts, or Big Bonus Boosts.

Pros

  • Win up to 20,000x.
  • Creative (if unusual) theme and design.
  • Tonnes of bonus buy/loot box options in the store.

Cons

  • The theme won’t appeal to all players.
  • Without landing lighters, the base game can be quite boring.
  • Gameplay is heavily reliant on blockers.

Laced Slot Review Final Thoughts

Laced is a strange slot, although we suppose that’s to be expected of pretty much all Shady Lady releases today! The game’s built very heavily around the Bud blockers, which need to be activated before wins can be formed, and this, for some players, is going to feel a bit “off”. Still, the clever mystery symbol reveal mechanic means you can hit some pretty nice wins, even in the base game, especially if the Elephant multipliers land, too.

Sure, it’s not packed with quite as many modifiers as we saw in earlier Shady Lady releases, but there are a tonne of bonus buy/loot box options, although these may be unavailable depending on the region you’re playing from.

On the whole, however, Laced is a decent game with some clever mechanics, a tasty maximum win potential of 20,000x, and plenty of options to buy your way into the chaos!
