Slot Overview
Knights vs Barbarians is a new release from Pragmatic Play that plunges you into mediaeval action, as you watch two armies battle it out against one another, with Wild Transformations, Multipliers, Free Spins, and a unique Centre-Reel-Battle Mechanic. With a maximum win potential of up to 10,000x, it looks promising, but does it deliver? Find out here.
Theme & Design
The presentation of Knights vs Barbarians is decent, and you’ll find yourself dropped into a mediaeval warzone, with clashing armies, burning equipment and animated soldiers visible in the backdrop.
Knights and barbarians stare each other down from the reels, while sparks, fire and motion effects bring some really decent-looking action to the reels, in our opinion!
If you like games like Zeus versus Hades: Gods of War or Angel Versus Sinner, Knights vs Barbarians is probably going to be right up your street. It’s action-packed, chaotic, and fun!

Knights Vs Barbarians Gameplay & Bonus Features
Knights vs Barbarians plays on a 5-reel, 3-row grid with 10 fixed paylines, paying left to right. Bets range from €0.20 to €240 per spin, and the game runs on a high-volatility model with an RTP of up to 96.51%. However, like most Pragmatic Play releases today, the game can be offered in lower RTP configurations, too, so always check before playing.
There’s quite a lot going on, and one of the core mechanics revolves around the highlighted centre reel position, where special Scatters can land in the base game. When a Knight Scatter appears, it converts itself and all visible Knight symbols into Wilds. The Barbarian Scatter performs the same function for Barbarian symbols.
There’s also a Battle Scatter, which, when it lands, triggers an animated clash between two of the armies, randomly selecting a multiplier of between 2x and 100x. The winning side’s symbols, along with the Battle Scatter itself, turn into Wilds, with the multiplier value displayed applying to all wins for that spin.
Knights vs Barbarians’ Free Spins bonus is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the Scatter symbols anywhere in view. Doing so awards 10, 15, or 20 free games, respectively. During the bonus, only special Scatters can land in the highlighted centre reel position. This makes it a lot easier to trigger Wild Transformations and Multipliers. You can also win extra free spins by landing a free spins scatter in the centre: this adds between 2 and 10 more games.
Bonus Buy
Knights vs Barbarian contains two Bonus Buy options. For 100x your bet, you can buy instant entry into the Free Spins, while, for 500x, you can buy the Super Free Spins, which ensures only the two most valuable Scatters can land in the centre reel position.
Pros
- High maximum win potential of 10,000x.
- Unique centre-reel battle mechanic with multipliers.
- Super Free Spins can be very lucrative.
Cons
- Bonus Buy options are unavailable in some regions.
- No natural way to land the Super Free Spins.
- Lower RTP configurations of the game are available.
Knights Vs Barbarains Slot Review Final Thoughts
Look, Pragmatic Play has been releasing a lot of these kinds of games recently. And when we say “these games”, we mean ones that (generally) follow the same formula: good design, multiplier mechanics, and some Free Spins/Super Free Spins rounds.
It works, clearly, and unlike some providers (we’re looking at you, Hacksaw Gaming), Pragmatic does at least try to offer variety between titles. Still, releases like Knights vs Barbarian make it kind of hard to shake the feeling that it’s just “another game” that we’ve seen in some way, shape, or form before, and it’s not bad, just not great.
Yes, we do like the centre-reel mechanic, and this not only looks good, but also keeps the gameplay interesting, but in our testing, it’s pretty rare to get high multipliers from it, so it may be a case of it looking a bit better than it actually is.
The Super Free Spins are cool, too; we just hate the fact that there’s no way to land them naturally! So, yes, Knights vs Barbarian has some good things going for it - and a strong maximum win potential of 10,000x. For us, however, it’s just a bit “bland”, and nothing really out of the ordinary, but if you like this kind of game, it’s probably suitable - just don’t expect it to reinvent the wheel!
