Game Overview

Technically speaking, I would say that the Kingdom of the Dead is but a synonym for the most horrible of places that the majority of us refer to as hell! Pragmatic Play obviously has other ideas, however, as their new Kingdom of the Dead Online Slot Is much more likely to take you to heaven than hell! Just so long as your idea of heaven is hitting 10,000x your bet on a 10 payline slot with a 96.07% RTP, that is, anyway!

In terms of features, it seems as if including the word ‘dead’ in your title nowadays signifies that your slot must have lots of elements borrowed from Book of Dead! Take the scarab-adorned book symbols, for example – these act as both the scatter and wild, and hitting all five will earn you 500x your total bet. Once you reach the free spins feature, Pragmatic Play has mixed things up by offering two gameplay mechanics choices – you can have a randomly selected expanding symbol just like in Book of Dead. In contrast, the alternate feature mode will cause the special expanding symbol to be picked at random before each spin.

I guess that players must finally be getting bored with the standard Book of Dead formula, as we’ve recently seen all kinds of new ideas bolted onto the core mechanics of Play’N’Go’s smash-hit slot. However, I reckon that the additions made here are a decent enough improvement to insist you must try our free demo slot of Kingdom of the Dead.

Kingdom Of The Dead Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

Kingdom Of The Dead Slot Paytable

Book of Dead wasn’t the first game to use the expanding symbols mechanic in its bonus round – that honour goes to Book of Ra, a game so uncannily similar to Play’N’Go’s release that you could be forgiven for thinking that they were separated at birth. Of course, the more likely explanation is that fledgling software house Play’N’Go were running out of money, so it went looking for a game to clone that was hugely popular on the casino floor but was yet to make it to the online casino world – let’s give them credit where credit’s due, they sure did pick a good one!

The paytable has had a few adjustments made compared to Book of Dead; thankfully, all in an upward direction! The male character symbol is worth 500x the total bet for a full payline of five of a kind, a long way ahead of the Tutankhamun symbol, worth 200x the bet for all five symbols. The horse guard and scarab will each get you 75x for a complete payline, after which we’re already onto the low pays. Before we discuss those, however, can we all give Pragmatic Play a round of applause for their 500x bet prize attached to five scatter symbols? That really is a rare treat nowadays! The royals are divided into two groups – five Aces or Kings will get you 15x the total bet, whilst five Queens, Jacks, or Tens return slightly less at 10x each.

The betting range is relatively wide for a Pragmatic Play release – the minimum/maximum bets of €0.10 and €250.00 per spin will undoubtedly cover both high and low rollers, but how about those in between? I’m pleased to say there’s no problem there either, as the developer’s bespoke three-way bet selection system allows any player to find a wager that suits them.

Base Game & Modifiers

Kingdom Of The Dead Slot Base Game

The regular gameplay of Kingdom of the Dead takes place on a standard five reel, three row video slot playfield. To the left, you’ll spot the bonus bet and bonus buy options – see below for details on those. You’ll need at least three matching regular symbols on a pay line to score yourself a win, except the book scatter, which not only pays for just two symbols, but they don’t even have to be adjacent, either!

Ante Bet

The ante bet in this game increases the price of each spin by 50% but promises much higher odds of triggering a bonus round in return. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you what the exact difference in odds might be, but as the RTP remains the same, I would still recommend playing with this on.

Kingdom Of The Dead Slot Bonus Features

Hitting three or more scattered book symbols anywhere on the reels will trigger ten free spins. If four or five book symbols happen to land, you won’t receive any benefit as far as your feature is concerned. On the plus side, you will be compensated with a cash prize of up to 500x the total bet.

Free Spins

Before your bonus round begins, you’ll be offered the choice of either FIXED MYSTERY SYMBOLS or RANDOM MYSTERY SYMBOLS. Whichever symbol becomes the mystery symbol will expand on all reels where it lands – even on non-adjacent positions – provided enough of them to reward you with a win.

This is essentially identical to Book of Dead; however, the RANDOM MYSTERY SYMBOL mode is much more exciting and interesting, in my opinion – sometimes symbols just don’t like to show up, so why not hedge your bets and bank on all of them!

Bonus Buy

Fancy going straight to the bonus round? I don’t blame you! Admittedly, it’s a tad more expensive than a typical Pragmatic Play release at 120x the total bet, but this still represents excellent value for money, in my opinion.

Pros

  • Excellent presentation – some talented artists definitely worked on this.
  • It’s always nice when the wild and scatter occupy the same symbol!
  • The 10,000x jackpot is twice what you can win playing Book of Dead.

Cons

  • Not much going on in the base game.

Final Thoughts

As far as a Book of Dead clone goes, this is as good as any – the option to have a random expanding symbol during every round of the feature is a great addition to the formula. I know I’ll be adding this one to my favourite list of games to play, that's for sure.
