Game Overview
I was informed that there was another “book” slot to review earlier today… “Oh?” I asked… “Is it called Clone of Book?”. I feel that such a name would be a fitting title for this type of game – I never really understood the meaning of “Book of Ra”, to be honest, but when other developers began to copy that game, things got out of hand. This latest example from Pragmatic Play is another ten-line game with a 96.5% RTP and a capped jackpot of 4,000x the bet and has a few unique elements to it that separate it from earlier “book” slots.
Let’s start with the primary bonus round – it’s still a free spins affair, but there is a cash prize of up to 200x your bet for hitting all five scatter symbols, and you also get to choose your preferred expanding symbol at the start of each feature. The “Re-spin” in the title refers to the fact hitting three or four expanding symbols during the bonus round will trigger a free re-spin and a second chance to land the remaining one or two symbols. There is even a variant of the expanding symbol feature in the base game, further differentiating this slot from Book of Ra and Book of Dead.
I know that Book of Dead has plenty of fans, so I won’t be surprised if you have already skipped straight to our free demo slot of John Hunter and the Book of Tut Respin – go ahead and give it a blast!
Book Of Tut Respin Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
I have already reviewed one game with an Ancient Egypt theme today, but despite that, I will try and stay objective as I review this one! This theme is so overused in the online slots industry that we even have an entire section dedicated to it, which you can find here if you fancy spending a whole day playing Egyptian-themed slots! Now that I think about it, I’m not sure I sold that link too well… as much as I enjoy some of the games that use this theme, I feel slot developers need to stop reusing the same ideas repeatedly. I’m glad that Pragmatic Play has put a decent amount of effort into Book of Tut Re-Spin, and that it isn’t just a blatant clone of Book of Ra and Book of Dead, as I really would find it difficult to hide my boredom if it was just a simple copy of those earlier games.
Let’s investigate the paytable next; I’m sure you won’t be surprised to learn that our latest Indiana Jones lookalike – known as “John Hunter” this time around – sits at the top of the paytable. Hitting a complete five-of-a-kind pay line of John symbols will return 100x your bet, whilst the Tutankhamun mask is worth 50x for all five. Next, we have the cat and scarab beetle, both of which have a return of 30x for a complete pay line. There are five lower-paying royal symbols with values of between 10x and 5x for a five-of-a-kind combination, and then there are the books worth 200x, 20x, or 2x for five, four, or three, respectively. If you have spent any time spinning the other slots we previously mentioned, then I’m sure all those numbers felt eerily familiar, so let’s move on.
Even the wagering options have a distinct familiarity to them in Book of Tut Re-Spin – the minimum bet per spin is €0.10, whilst the maximum is set at €100.00 per round. Pragmatic Play has employed its usual three-way selector mechanism, meaning you can choose almost any interval between these two amounts you wish.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base game is as standard as they come – a 5×3 playfield featuring ten fixed paylines. Three matching symbols on a pay line starting from the left will award a regular win, whilst three or more books anywhere on the screen will award the scatter wins. Unlike previous book slots, this one features a special modifier, detailed below:
Mystery Symbol Modifier
This is a unique feature that wasn’t part of any previous “book” games, so it is a welcome addition to Book of Tut. On any spin, a random symbol may be selected from the paytable as the mystery symbol for that spin.
After the regular spin completes, the mystery symbol will expand to cover the entire reel, similarly to how the special symbol behaves during the free spin feature.
The mystery symbol will expand to cover all positions on any reel where it lands, after which you will be awarded a free re-spin for an opportunity to land additional special symbols.
If you hit one or more extra symbols with your re-spin, the process will repeat until the screen is filled with your mystery symbol or the following re-spin results in no additional special symbols landing.
Book Of Tut Respin Slot Bonus Features
The main bonus round is triggered by hitting three or more book symbols during the base game and always awards ten free spins. If you should hit four or five books, you will be paid an additional cash prize – 20x for four books or 200x for all five.
At the beginning of the free spins feature, you will be asked to choose your preferred expanding symbol. This is a neat touch, as most “book” slots have featured a random selection mechanism instead. By allowing you to choose your expanding symbol, Pragmatic Play effectively lets players decide how much volatility they are willing to accept – pick the explorer if you want a massive win every now and again or go for the royals if you want lots of smaller wins!
The other big difference between this feature and previous “book” slot bonus rounds is the re-spin element; if you hit three or four of your chosen expanding symbol on any spin, then you will win an additional re-spin, giving you another chance to complete a full screen of five matching expanding symbols. The free spins feature can also be retriggered by hitting three or more books whilst the bonus round is in play.
Bonus Buy
If permitted within your jurisdiction, you can skip straight to the free spins feature for a cost of 100x the regular bet. You’ll still be allowed to select your preferred expanding symbol, and the price seems fair, as far as I can tell. Pragmatic Play notes on the paytable that the RTP when choosing this option is 96.48% – just 0.02% less than the regular RTP.
Book Of Tut Respin Slot Review Final Thoughts
Book of Ra and Book of Dead were both tremendous online slots, but Book of Tut does things even better than those games did; the presentation is top-notch, and the feature set has just enough new and unique elements to ensure that even seasoned players of the earlier “book” games should find plenty of fun in this one. Check this one out – Pragmatic Play has done well, once again!
