Theme & Design

We’ve seen no shortage of Asian-themed video slots over the years, and, along with the Wild West and Leprechaun-inspired slots, it’s a classic genre that software providers can easily rely on, especially for Asian markets. Iron Phoenix is an Asian-inspired slot from Push Gaming, and it looks to be set in the mountains of China, with a beautiful pagoda visible in the background behind the reels.

Of course, Push Gaming is no stranger to Asian-inspired slots, with titles like Big Bam-Book and Samurai’s Katana proving to be relatively popular. Iron Phoenix hones in on a more specific theme, however, and it tells the tale of the legendary phoenix, a mythical bird that symbolises rebirth, immortality, and transformation!

The phoenix theme is really well integrated with the Chinese aesthetics, and the text, even while in English, even looks to have a slight Chinese look and feel to it!

Iron Phoenix Gameplay & Bonus Features

Iron Phoenix is designed around a 5×3 layout, and there are 20 fixed paylines in play at all times. The default RTP of the slot is 96.24%, but two lower versions are available, too: 94.01% and 85.29%, the latter of which is designed for the German market. It’s a low-to-medium variance game with a maximum observed win of 12,242x.

Now, the first feature in the game is the Phoenix Symbol, and this can only land on reels 2, 3, and 4. When three land, the amount displayed on the Phoenix Reel is awarded. The Phoenix Reel is positioned above the middle three reels, and on each spin, you’ll notice that a space above the reels constantly moves, displaying either cash values, jackpot symbols, or three scatter symbols.

Landing 3+ scatter symbols anywhere in view, or on the main Phoenix Reel, awards the free spins bonus. You win between 10 and 20 free games depending on the number of scatters landed. During the free spins, scatter symbols can land on the Phoenix Reels, awarding an additional 1-5 spins.

During the bonus round, there are three Phoenix reels, and you’ll see a progression bar appearing. When a Phoenix Symbol lands, it’s collected into the progression bar, and a segment of the bar is filled. Each time you collect four symbols, you advance a level, and this awards you extra free spins and multipliers.

Bonus Buy

Iron Phoenix contains just one bonus buy mechanic, and it costs 75x your base game stake. In return, you’ll be able to instantly trigger the free spins bonus with a random number of scatter symbols.

Pros

  • A max win of more than 12,000x is up for grabs.
  • Beautiful graphics and design
  • Four non-progressive-jackpots.

Cons

  • There is only one bonus buy option.
  • Phoenix Reel rarely displays the jackpot.
  • Variable RTPs are available for operators to use.

Iron Phoenix Slot Review Final Thoughts

Iron Phoenix is a beautifully designed game, and it’s clear that Push Gaming has spared no expense when it came to graphics. We love the Asian theme: it works well, the background detail is superb, and there’s a really calm, relaxing feeling as you spin the reels of the game.

While the bonuses and features aren’t the most original in the world, they work well together, and we like the fact that the bonus buy cost is cheap, too, at just 75x your base game stake. So, if you’re looking for a new Push Gaming release to check out, Iron Phoenix is definitely one to consider, although it's unlikely to make it onto your all-time top Push Gaming titles.
