Slot Overview

Invaders Blitz is a sci-fi-themed video slot from Light & Wonder that’s based around an alien invasion theme, alongside cash-collection mechanics, two free spins modes, fixed jackpots, and a 4,096-ways-to-win mechanic. There’s a huge amount of action, but is it any good? Find out in this detailed review.

Theme & Design

Light & Wonder has been hard at work pushing out creative, feature-complex games recently, and titles like Star Trek: The Next Generation Megaways and Huff ‘n More Puff have shown that they’re looking to move away from the generic games of their past and move into producing more complex slots.

Visually, Invaders Blitz leans heavily into a retro-futuristic alien invasion theme, and you’ll see the reels set within a glowing spaceship control room with a deep-space backdrop.

The game looks pretty good, and above the reels to the left, you’ll see the game’s three fixed jackpots, while on the right-hand side there’s a progression metre; details on that shortly.

Invaders Blitz Gameplay & Bonus Features

Invaders Blitz is played on a 6-reel grid using an Any Way system that delivers 4,096 ways to win, with wins formed by matching symbols on adjacent reels starting from the far left. You can bet between €0.10 and €20.00 per spin. The game operates with an RTP of 95.93%. The Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols and appears on all reels bar reel 1, and you’ll also see Cash Cow symbols landing, each of which carries a fixed cash value.

Now, there’s a lot of bonus action in the game, and the Lightning Collection mechanic is perhaps most important. These symbols can land on reels 1 and 6 only, and they come in three types: Normal Collect, Respin Collect, and Multiplier Collect. Normal Collect collects the value of all visible Cash Cow symbols and awards the total, Respin Collect triggers a respin with all Cash Cow and Lightning Collect symbols held in place before acting as a Normal Collect, and Multiplier Collect multiplies the total collected value by x2, x3, or x4 in the base game, or up to x5 during Cow Collect Free Spins.

If you land 3+ Bonus symbols in view, you’ll be taken to the Free Spins Feature Picker. Here, you can choose between Cow Collect or Symbol Eliminator Free Spins.

Cow Collect Free Spins guarantees at least one Lightning Collect symbol on every spin, makes the only symbols that can land Cash Cows, Lightning Collects, or empty spaces, and awards extra free spins when two Lightning Collect symbols land together. Symbol Eliminator Free Spins, on the other hand, gradually remove the lowest-paying symbols from the reels when they form winning combinations.

You’ll also see the Cowtainer Meter in the top right-hand corner of the screen. This collects Cash Cow symbols when no collect symbols are present. Once the meter reaches 75, it triggers the Bonus Wheel. This wheel then awards a percentage-based share of the collected values, from 1% to 100%.

A unique long-term element is the Cowtainer Meter, which collects Cash Cow symbols when no collect symbols are present. Once the meter reaches 75 or more, it triggers a Bonus Wheel that awards a percentage share of the collected value, ranging from 1% up to 100%. The Cowtainer Meter is persistent, carrying over between sessions, and refills partially after each Bonus Wheel activation.

Finally, there are the three static jackpots: Minor, Major, and Mini. When you land one of these jackpot symbols with a Black, Brown, or Pink Cash Cow, the value of the corresponding jackpot is awarded.

Pros

  • Dual Free Spins mode gives you a choice over your bonus round.
  • Cowtainer Meter is progression-based and offers at least some guaranteed wins.
  • Clear, well-structured Collect mechanic.

Cons

  • RTP of 95.93% is a little low.
  • The game’s visual style is quite cluttered; it can be confusing to follow at first.
  • No Bonus Buy option is available.

Invaders Blitz Slot Review Final Thoughts

Invaders Blitz is a game we have mixed feelings about. On one hand, we like the fact that it’s packed with so many features. The Collect symbols, the dual Free Spins modes, and the gradual progression of the Cowtainer Meter mean there’s always something going on.

On the other hand, it is quite complex to get your head around at first, and the volatility feels medium, despite the game playing like a high-variance game in many ways.

We do like the fact that there are two free spins modes to choose from (we prefer the Symbol Elimination Free Spins), and the Cash Cows, Jackpots, and other bonus mechanics make for exciting gameplay.

However, it has the feeling of an old Scientific Games/SG Digital slot, and for some players, that’s a great thing, while for others, it signifies a game that can’t really deliver on its potential and can play very streakily.

It’s definitely a game we’d like to have a try on when it’s released, but we appreciate it won’t be for everyone. If, however, you like alien-inspired slots with tonnes of bonuses and features, then yes, Invaders Blitz is probably going to be one for you!
