Game Overview
Ice Wolf 2 is the latest release from Elk Studios, and this nail-bitingly-cold game offers multiplier wilds, a “Wolf Den” mechanic, Wolf Spins, a Feature Row, and plenty of X-Ite options! With a maximum win potential of 10,000x, is the game any good? Let’s find out!
Theme & Design
Elk Studio’s original Ice Wolf slot was released in 2019, and while it never performed overly well, it was a solid release from the studio – so much so, in fact, that six years later, they’ve decided to follow it up with a sequel: Ice Wolf 2.
Now, unlike some of the other sequels Elk Studios has released, like Pirots 4 or Oxygen 2, Ice Wolf 2 keeps the design fairly similar, while, of course, introducing a variety of new mechanics and features.
The game “looks” very Elk Studios-like, and you’ll see the bottom three rows ‘free’, while the four above it are locked in ice. The game is very winter-inspired, and it gives you a bit of a chill once you load it up! The action unfolds in what looks to be a snow cave. The design is quite unique: it looks good.

Ice Wolf 2 Gameplay & Bonus Features
Ice Wolf 2 is designed around a 6-column, 3-7-row layout. There are between 729 and 100,842 ways to win, depending on the amount of ice that remains on the reels. You can bet between €0.20 and €100 per spin, and the game offers a default RTP of 94%.
Now, whenever you form a win in Ice Wolf 2, ice is cleared from the reels above. This unlocks new symbol positions and new ways to win. The columns of the game are divided into three sections: the feature row, the ice, and the main section. The Feature Row is at the top of the screen. It can only contain features and empty spaces.
Whenever ice is cleared and new symbol positions open up, the Feature Row at the top becomes more important. This row can contain Wilds, Golden Wilds, Multiplier symbols, Bonus symbols, and Golden Wolf symbols, all of which remain sticky between re-spins until they’re awarded or a new spin begins. You’ll also see Wilds and Golden Wilds that can carry multipliers of up to 5x on the reels.
A big part of Ice Wolf 2’s gameplay revolves around the three wolf mechanics, each of which clears ice and sprays the reels with Wilds and multiplier upgrades. The Howling Wolf lands in the main section, and, before wins are paid, it howls either left or right, clearing ice in a 90° cone and upgrading any Wilds it touches before transforming into a Wild itself. The Golden Wolf only appears in the Feature Row and affects three columns at once: its own, plus those adjacent, which sends wolves running down the reels, clearing away ice, and converting all symbols below it into wilds.
There’s also the Ice Wolf symbol, which, when activated, awards an Ice Wolf Re-Spin. When this feature triggers, wolves run up the above columns, remove all remaining ice, convert everything above the Ice Wolf into Wilds, and increase any Wild multipliers they cross.
The game’s main bonus round, called Wolf Spins, is triggered by landing a single active bonus symbol in the Feature Row once no more respins remain. You then receive 5 Wolf Spins. The Wolf Den below the reels is now unlocked.
The Wolf Den can activate on any spin, up to four columns at once, placing Ice Wolf symbols directly beneath the reels. These instantly trigger their wolf runs, clearing entire columns and filling them with Wilds and multiplier upgrades. During the bonus, +1 Spin symbols can also appear in the Feature Row, and when these are awarded, you’ll receive extra Wolf Spins.
X-iter
Like most Elk Studios slots today, Ice Wolf 2 offers a few X-iter options. Bonus Hunt costs 2.5x your stake and makes it more likely that you’ll trigger the bonus, while you can buy an Ice Run for 4x your stake. The standard bonus can be purchased for 100x, while a Super Bonus can be purchased for 250x, too.
Pros
- Win up to 10,000x.
- Heaps of bonuses and features.
- Plenty of X-iter bonus buy options.
Cons
- Below-average RTP of 94%.
- Can be frustrating if you don’t unblock ice in the base game.
- Gameplay is heavily reliant on features/modifiers.
Ice Wolf 2 Slot Review Final Thoughts
Ice Wolf 2 is Elk Studios at their most chaotic. We enjoyed the snow-crusted reels, constant modifiers, and wolf charges blasting through the ice. The Feature Row isn’t unique (we’ve seen it in some Quickspin releases before, for example), but it is a decent addition here and means there’s always something to aim for in the base game.
If you manage to unlock it and its features, you can enjoy some pretty big wins even in the base game thanks to modifiers. It can be pretty frustrating when you keep getting close to unlocking it but fail to do so.
Plus, the below-average RTP of 94% is a pretty noticeable downside. The base game can also feel quite frustrating when the ice refuses to break. Still, for Elk Studios fans and for players who like plenty of action, Ice Wolf 2 is a decent slot; it looks good, there are tonnes of bonuses and features, and it offers a solid maximum win potential of 10,000x!
