Slot Overview
Hot Tuna is a high-volatility fishing-themed slot from Reel Kingdom and distributed by Pragmatic Play. Designed around a money symbol collection mechanic, the game boasts progressive retriggers, collectors, free spins, and increasing multipliers of up to 10x. It feels very familiar, and with a maximum win potential of just 2,500x, is it likely to attract any players? Let’s find out.
Theme & Design
Hot Tuna is designed around a colourful, cartoonish Asian fishing theme, and you’ll see a sea, with bright blue seas, waves, mountains, and an emperor, all rendered in a kind of cartoon-like design. Visually, it looks fine, but it’s nothing special, and it gives off an instant Big Bass Bonanza vibe.
Now, while Hot Tuna isn’t part of the Big Bass series of games, the same provider, Reel Kingdom, produces it, and thus the gameplay is pretty much identical to all the fishing games which have flooded the market in the last few years.
Titles like Big Bass Halloween 2, for example, are being churned out year-round, and while Hot Tuna does deviate slightly by not using the same name, it’s easy to tell that it’s essentially just another clone.

Hot Tuna Gameplay & Bonus Features
Hot Tuna is played on a standard 5-reel, 3-row layout with 10 fixed paylines. Wins are formed by matching three or more symbols from left to right. You can bet between €0.05 and €480 per spin. The game has a default RTP of 96.53%.
Now, while line wins are possible, pretty much all the win potential in Hot Tuna revolves around Money symbols. When these symbols land, they display a random cash value of between 2x and 2,500x. Landing a Wild is what collects these Money symbols.
If you land 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view, you’ll trigger the free spins bonus and receive 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. Plus, if two Scatters land without the third, a random “nudge down” feature can trigger and award the third Scatter.
Once inside the free spins, things change slightly. Every time a Wild lands, it collects all visible Money symbols and awards +1 free spin. If a Money symbol lands without a wild, it’s stored in a collection meter on the side of the screen, and collecting six Money symbols advances you to the next stage. This awards you +10 free spins and drops a random Hot Tuna symbol onto the reels.
The Hot Tuna symbol is a special collector that multiplies the total collected Money values by up to 10x. If more than one Hot Tuna symbol forms part of the same win, their multipliers are added together, too.
Bonus Buy & Ante Bet
Hot Tun contains one Bonus Buy and one Ante Bet option. You can buy the free spins bonus for a fixed cost of 100x, while the Ante Bet doubles your base game stake but makes it more likely that you’ll trigger the bonus.
Pros
- Multiply Money symbols by 10x with Hot tuna Collectors.
- Free Spins bonus can re-trigger a lot.
- Above-average RTP of 96.53%.
Cons
- Incredibly low maximum win potential of just 2,500x.
- The base game is pretty boring; line-wins are low.
- Very dependant on multi-stage re-triggers.
Hot Tuna Slot Review Final Thoughts
Hot Tuna is another prime example of what Reel Kingdom has gotten comfortable releasing; a fine slot on its own, but one that most players are going to find incredibly boring, repetitive, and uncreative. Now, sure, the new introduction of the Hot Tuna symbols does add SOME difference. We like the fact that you can stack them while winning +1 spins for each Wild you land.
But... still, it’s absolutely nothing new, and nothing we haven’t seen a thousand times before. The insanely low maximum win potential of just 2,500x also means it’s unlikely to attract any serious players, and for us, it just makes zero sense to see a studio releasing a game like this.
Yes, we understand that it’s probably geared towards Asian markets where max win potential is less of a decisive factor when it comes to players choosing their games, but even still, the slots market is highly saturated, and players will be used to seeing games like Hot Tuna everywhere.
Sure, if you enjoy fishing-style collect games and want something fast, colourful, and simple, you may find JUST enough here to warrant having a spin or two. But, for us, it’s really a boring game without any real new modifiers or mechanics, and there are much better titles available now, we feel.
