Slot Overview

Hot Ross is a high-volatility street-art-inspired slot from Hacksaw Gaming, and the game’s a natural follow-on to RIP City and Rad Maxx. Now, Ross, the cat, has his very own game. This 5×5 grid slot offers multiple Bonus Games, Stacked Multipliers, Feature Buys, and a maximum win potential of up to 15,000x. Is it any good? Find out in this Demoslot review.

Theme & Design

Hacksaw Gaming’s RIP City and Rad Maxx games both enjoyed pretty high levels of success, and such was the level of success, the studio decided to release Hot Ross, a game that focuses almost entirely around the cute feline creature from the previous games!

Once you load Hot Ross, you’ll find yourself dropped into a grimy, graffiti-inspired urban setting, and the visual style is, like the two previous releases, quite raw; you’ll see cartoon-like symbols, all outlined with thick, high-contrast strokes.

It’s a fine-looking game, but for us, this theme doesn’t really appeal that much. Yes, it looks smart, and we know that Hacksaw Gaming has a market they’re trying to appeal to; for us, however, it’s just not the kind of vibe we enjoy.

Hot Ross Gameplay & Bonus Features

Hot Ross uses 5 reels, 5 rows, and 19 fixed paylines. You can bet between €0.10 and €50 per spin. The game boasts a default RTP of 96.32%, although lower RTP configurations are available, too.

Now, the game’s core feature revolves around Ro$$ and Hot Ro$$ symbols, which can appear in both the base game and all bonus rounds. When these symbols land and are part of a win, they expand vertically to cover the reel, acting as full wild reels. Standard Ro$$ symbols expand downward from their landing position, while Hot Ro$$ symbols move to the top of the reel before expanding fully. If an expanding symbol passes through existing wilds, it gains a multiplier ranging from x2 up to x200, with multiple wilds adding their values together.

The game’s Free Spins bonus is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the Scatter symbols anywhere in view. Each awards 10 free spins, and the more Scatters you land, the more powerful the bonus. In all modes, the chance of landing Ro$$ and Hot Ro$$ symbols increases, and the two higher bonuses introduce mechanics like reel activation, where certain reels are guaranteed to land Ro$$ symbols on each spin.

FeatureSpins / Bonus Buy

Hot Ross includes an extensive Bonus Buy menu, and there are a whopping 6 options to choose from:

  • BonusHunt FeatureSpins: Costs 3x and increases the chance of landing a Bonus Game by 5x.
  • Feisty FeatureSpins: Costs 60x and each spin guarantees that 3 Ro$$ symbols land.
  • Epic Drop FeatureSpins: Costs 1,000x, and each spin guarantees that 5 Ro$$ and at least 3 Wild symbols land.
  • Cat Calls: Costs 100x for 10 free games with more Ro$$ and Hot Ro$$ symbols on the reels.
  • Nine Lives: Costs 200x for 10 free games where reels activate and guarantee Ro$$ or Hot Ro$$ symbols on every spin.
  • BiggBoss Ross: The game’s Hidden Epic Bonus costs 1,000x. Awards 10 free games, and at least 2 Hot Ro$$ symbols and 1 Wild lands on every spin.

Pros

  • Win up to 15,000x.
  • Multiple bonus paths and good feature interaction.
  • Bigg Boss Ross, a Hidden Epic Bonus.

Cons

  • Very high volatility won’t suit all players.
  • The dark visual theme won’t suit everyone.
  • Some Bonus Buy/FeatureSpins options cost 1,000x!

Hot Ross Slot Review Final Thoughts

Look, we understand, at least, the appeal that games like Hot Ross, RIP City, and Rad Maxx have; we know that some players are fixated on this new style of slot from Hacksaw Gaming, and that’s totally fair: you like what you like!

For us, however, we just find them to be so boring! They look very bland, in our opinion; we don’t like the monochrome look and feel of them, and yes, the mechanics are quite decent, but even then, we can’t help but feel as though they’re just... boring after a while.

Hot Ross is a return to familiar territory for Hacksaw Gaming, and, like the two previous games before it, it focuses on aggressive reel mechanics and expansions, rather than pretty looks. Yes, the expanding Ro$$ and Hot Ro$$ symbols have potential, but for us, there’s just not that much difference here compared to RIP City and Rad Maxx.

Yes, the 15,000x maximum win potential is solid, and the fact that there’s a Hidden Epic Bonus will excite Hacksaw regulars. Still, for us, we just find it... very boring! It’s about time Hacksaw Gaming came out with some new mechanics, we think!
