Slot Overview

Honey Rush Black and Yellow is a high-volatility cluster-pays slot from Play’n GO, and, as the name suggests, it expands on the hugely popular Honey Rush mechanic. This time, however, there’s a larger grid, layered progression mechanics, and a massive 20,000x maximum win. With multiple RTP configurations and extreme volatility, can this bold bee-themed release deliver rewards worthy of the risk? Let’s find out.

Theme & Design

Honey Rush and its sequels, including titles like Honey Rush 100, are some of the most successful Play’n GO releases in recent history, rivalling the success of titles like Reactoonz. It is, of course, no surprise that the studio has decided to do another sequel, and Honey Rush Black and Yellow retains the core theme, graphics, and “feel” from previous games but makes everything bigger, better, and more volatile!

The game itself is set in a bright, urban park environment where nature and city both collide with one another, and you’ll see a pretty vibrant skyline directly behind the honeycomb grid. It’s a little different from the nature setting from previous games, but it’s instantly recognisable, and it looks (and plays) very smooth!

Honey Rush Black & Yellow Gameplay & Bonus Features

Honey Rush Black and Yellow uses a 7-reel grid with variable rows in a 4-5-6-7-6-5-4 formation. Like its predecessors, it pays via cluster pays mechanic. Wins are formed by landing five or more adjacent matching symbols anywhere on the grid. Winning symbols are removed, new symbols cascade in, and chain reactions are possible. You can bet from €0.10 to €100, and the game’s default RTP is 96.2%, although lower configurations are available, too.

Now, Cash Symbols play a central role in the game. When they land as part of a winning cluster, their values are added together and multiplied by your bet, awarding an instant Cash Bonus. If Cash Symbols do not form part of a winning cluster, the Bee instead collects them, causing it to grow and increasing the chance of triggering an Instant Bonus.

The Bee can randomly award one of four Instant Bonuses when triggered:

  • Mini: 10x
  • Minor: 20x
  • Major: 50x
  • Grand: 100x

The Rush Meter charges whenever winning symbols are removed from the grid, and once enough charge is built up, queued features activate automatically when no further wins occur. One of the main Rush features is the Colony Feature, which clones the central symbol on the grid to create a new cluster and potentially restart cascades.

Now, as the clusters grow larger, the game can also trigger different colony states, including Drone, Worker, and Queen Colonies, each requiring increasingly large cluster sizes and basically improving in quality as you go up, just like all Play’n GO games like this (Wild Frames, Reactoonz, etc.)

You’ll also find Walking Wild Multipliers, and these land naturally and substitute for all symbols. When part of a winning cluster, they remain on the grid rather than being removed, and after each cascade, Walking Wilds move to a random position and increase their multiplier by +1, starting from 1x and stopping at 3x. If a Wild Multiplier reaches 3x, it is then removed from the reels on the following symbol drop-down.

Pros

  • Solid set of features with constant progression/interactions.
  • Very high maximum win potential of 20,000x.
  • Cash Symbols, Rush Meter, and Walking Wilds all return, but better.

Cons

  • Extremely high volatility won’t suit all players.
  • Play’n GO offers the game in some low RTP configurations; always check the casino you play at.
  • Complex mechanics may be overwhelming for new/casual players.

Honey Rush Black & Yellow Slot Review Final Thoughts

Honey Rush Black and Yellow is an excellent follow-on to previous Honey Rush releases, we feel, and it does a superb job of building on familiar mechanics while increasing volatility and win potential to the extremes. The base game is fast-paced and exciting, and clusters, cascades, and cash symbols ensure you’re not solely reliant on charging the now-iconic Rush Meter for big wins.

We do, however, feel that Play’n GO has also done a solid job with the Rush Meter and how it interacts with Colony features and Walking Wild Multipliers. Sure, it can be insanely frustrating; it’s very common (like in the originals) to get just one symbol away from the next “charge” level, but this is all part of the fun, and it’s what helps to make the game so damn fun!

Yes, you need to be careful, as some online gambling operators will offer the game at significantly lower RTPs (dropping down into the low 80%s in some cases!), but as long as you stay with reputable sites and play the 96.2% version, you’ll be fine.

Honey Rush Black and Yellow is 100% a game we’ll be playing for ourselves, and with solid graphics, great mechanics, and a huge maximum win potential of 20,000x - we imagine many Demoslot readers will be, too!
