Slot Overview

Heartbreakers is a new 5×4 video slot from Pragmatic Play that has 20 paylines, a special top row of random multipliers, collect bottles, a respin feature, and a maximum win potential of up to 10,000x your bet. With a 96.53% RTP and an unusually low volatility profile for a game with a max win like this, Heartbreakers looks like an interesting release, but how did it stand up during our testing? Let’s find out.

Gameplay & Bonus Features

Heartbreakers is played on a five-reel, four-row layout. There are 20 fixed paylines in play at all times. The game offers an above-average RTP of 96.53%, and you can bet from €0.20 to €240.00. Interestingly, it’s a low-variance game, which is surprising given its high maximum win potential of 10,000x.

Now, above the reels you’ll see the prominent top multiplier row, and this contains 5 random multipliers on every spin, worth between 1x and 100x. If a collect bottle symbol lands beneath a multiplier, a special feature is triggered, the nature of which is determined by the colour of the bottle.

The Green Collect Bottle applies the multiplier directly above its reel to your total stake, the Red Collect Bottle carries its own multiplier and combines it with the multiplier above it, and the Yellow Collect Bottle collects all five top row multipliers, adds them together, and multiplies the final number against your bet.

The main bonus is triggered by landing 3 scatter symbols and takes the form of a respin feature. You start with 3 respins, and the main grid then fills only with blank spaces or collect bottles. Every time one or more bottles lands in view, your respin counter resets back to three, and the top-row multipliers begin to build, too.

During the respin feature, landing green bottles adds values directly to the multiplier above their reel, red bottles multiply the current value above them, and yellow bottles collect the current total from all five top positions and add that total onto the multiplier above its own reel. Once the respins end, all five final multipliers are added together and awarded to you as a times-stake payout.

Bonus Buy & Ante Bet

Heartbreakers includes several optional extras. First up, there’s an Ante Bet that increases the chance of triggering the respin feature, and there’s also a Super Spins option that guarantees at least one 10x multiplier in the special row. You can buy into the standard Respins bonus for 100x, and there’s also a Super Respins feature for 500x.

Theme & Design

Heartbreakers uses a pretty cool cabaret design, and the reels are presented as though they’re behind the curtains of a live show taking place. On the left-hand and right-hand sides of the screen you’ll be able to see the dimly lit crowd, and above the reels you’ll see the unmissable top row multiplier.

Visually, we’d say it probably lands somewhere between Madame Destiny Megaways and The Grand Show, but we feel Heartbreakers is a lot less about making everything look polished and more about keeping things clear and clean, especially around the multiplier row.

Pros

  • Decent base game payouts
  • Win up to 10,000x your bet
  • Top-row multiplier mechanic is easy to understand

Cons

  • Mechanics all feel quite familiar
  • Top row multipliers don’t multiply wins
  • Super Respins bonus is very expensive to buy

Final Thoughts

Heartbreakers looks like a mathematically appealing slot, and while it’s not the best-looking game in the world, that’s not really what it’s about, although it does do just enough in the visuals department to get by, in our opinion.

Generally, we like what the game has to offer, and we find the top row multiplier mechanic easy to understand and fairly simple. Yes, it's a little bit odd that the multipliers don't actually multiply your wins, with Pragmatic opting instead to simply multiply your stake.

Still, it’s decent enough, and in the bonus, with the right combinations of bottles in the right order, you can start to see how you could inch towards the game's max win of 10,000x.

Yes, it won't be for everybody, and a low-variance maths model does mean the base game delivers a lot of smaller wins, but it's definitely possible to hit big ones too. If you're looking for something a little bit different from Pragmatic to try out, Heartbreakers may be worth a spin.
