Game Overview
Slot studio Push Gaming’s Happy Bamboo takes one of the developer’s most successful slots, Big Bamboo, and condenses it into a 3×3, land-based-style slot that combines classic slot vibes with modern mechanics. It’s part of the developer’s new Reel Hot Games line, and with a maximum win potential of 6,060x, it offers some surprisingly good potential, too.
Theme & Design
One of iGaming’s biggest success stories in recent years is Push Gaming, and due to this success comes change. One of their most recent changes to their portfolio is the introduction of a Reel Hot Games concept, which is designed, essentially, to be a sub-brand of games designed to appeal to fans of more classic slots.
Happy Bamboo is the next instalment in the “bamboo” series, which includes hits like Big Bamboo and Bamboo Ways. Just like its predecessors, the game looks fantastic, with a stunning Chinese-themed design. You’ll see the familiar panda mascot sitting above the reels, with an ancient Chinese temple in the background. You’ll also notice that four non-progressive jackpots have been added to the game, and these are displayed on the left-hand side of the reels.

Happy Bamboo Gameplay & Bonus Features
Happy Bamboo plays on a 3×3 grid with just 5 paylines. To form wins you need to form three-of-a-kind combos. You can wager between €0.10 and €100 per spin, and the game offers a slightly above-average RTP of 96.31%.
Now, unlike the “bamboo” games before it, Happy Bamboo is designed around a medium variance math model which, we guess, is to be expected given the 3×3 layout. Still, you’ll see some familiar features, the first of which is the Mystery Bamboo Symbols. When they land, they all reveal matching results, which can include: Standard symbols or wilds, or Golden Mystery Bamboos, which can reveal:
- Instant Coin wins of between 1x and 100x
- Collectors, which gather all visible coin + jackpot values
- Multipliers, between 2x and 10x, which are applied to all coin and jackpot values
- Jackpots: Mini, worth 10x, Minor, worth 25x, Mega, worth 100x; and Grand, worth 500x.
The game also introduces a Swapper Feature. When the Panda symbol appears above the grid, two icons randomly swap places to form a win .
Finally, there’s the Hold & Respin bonus round. Golden Coins collected by the Panda can randomly trigger this round, and when it does, a wheel first spins to set an end-of-round multiplier worth between 2x and 10x. During the re-spins, Mystery Bamboo symbols lock in place, continuing until no new ones appear or all nine cells are filled.
Each remaining bamboo then reveals either pay or Golden Mystery symbols, and the final total is boosted by the multiplier from the wheel.
Pros
- Four fixed jackpots (which can be multiplied by up to 10x).
- Total maximum win potential of 6,060x.
- Fast-paced adaptation of a Push Gaming classic.
Cons
- The 3x3 layout won’t be for everyone.
- Only 5 paylines.
- No bonus buy or Ante Bet options.
Happy Bamboo Slot Review Final Thoughts
Game developers like Push Gaming are always evolving, and their new Reel Hot Games concept is a perfect example of that evolution. Of course, this newly introduced 3x3 game layout won’t be for everyone, but for those wanting a more classic feel to slots (in an era where everything seems to be getting bigger, and more complex), it may actually come as a welcome addition.
Happy Bamboo might be bite-sized, but it does a pretty good job of capturing the look, feel, and vibe of Push Gaming’s Bamboo range of games pretty well, and we like the fact that it includes mystery reveals, coins, and a Hold & Win bonus round, even if the latter is a bit overdone in recent years.
It’s less explosive than Big Bamboo, and despite its similarities it does feel like quite a different game, but for those who want an easy to play slot that’s simple and straightforward, it’s worth checking out, even if the win potential is a bit on the low side.
