Game Overview

Egypt is still a place that is very much on my bucket list, and I keep telling myself that I will one day see the pyramids and the Valley of Kings in all their splendour. For now though, I’m stuck with documentaries and an ever-growing catalogue of online slots themed around the land of the pharaohs to keep me occupied. Another title to add to that list is Hacksaw Gaming’s slot Hand of Anubis, a 5-reel machine that runs on the cluster pays mechanic, with an RTP of 96.24% and a maximum win of 10,000x bet.

Egyptian-themed slots always tend to pack a punch, and players have several special features to enjoy throughout the game. Keep a look out for the Wild Soul Orbs in the base game that can increase in multiplier value whenever they collect symbols and wins. Two bonus rounds with high win potential can also be triggered. The first is the Underworld Feature which offers players the chance to get their hands on massive win multipliers, whilst the Judgement Spins bonus can drop high paying multiplier blocks onto each reel.

Are you well-versed in all things Egyptian? Or are you a complete newbie to the subject? Whichever it might be, I suggest you fire up our free demo slot of Hand of Anubis and see what this game has to offer. It’s available for you to try below.

Hand Of Anubis Slot Paytable

Here’s an interesting fact for you. Ancient Egyptians would save as much money as they possibly could throughout their lifetime to invest in a Book of the Dead for when their days of living finally ended. This guide would help them navigate the challenges to the afterlife, where their final task would be to meet the mighty Anubis, who would weigh their heart on the scales of justice, judging the overall merit of the individual’s soul. Passing this test successfully meant passage to the afterlife, whilst failure would mean eternity in the underworld or, worse still, being eaten alive by the devourer of the dead Ammut. Scary stuff, right? But next time you’re spinning the reels on Play’n Go’s slot Book of Dead, at least you’ll know the story behind it. Anyway, let’s get back to Hacksaw’s Hand of Anubis and see how it shapes up in the pays department.

Let’s start at the very top of the paytable, and the highest paying symbol is the ankh worth 60x the bet for clusters of 11 or more. Next, we have the snake and pyramid, both paying 40x bet, and the last of the premium symbols is the eye of Horus and winged isis, both sharing equal payouts of 20x bet. Moving down to the low pays, we have five royal symbols, which are the Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ten, and all of these will pay 15x the bet for winning clusters of 11 or more. There are also two wild symbols known as soul orbs that can be utilised in the game too, and we’ll cover these in the next section of the review, as they have their own unique superpowers that can help you win even bigger prizes.

Finally, let’s discuss the staking options in the Hand of Anubis. The slot offers a minimum stake value of €0.10, with the maximum bet reaching the dizzy height of €100. Thankfully, there are several options between these amounts, making the game accessible for players of all sized budgets.

Base Game & Modifiers

The gameplay on the Hand of Anubis is set across a reel format of 5×6, where the cluster pays mechanic is in operation. You create winning combinations in your play when 5 or more symbols match adjacently anywhere upon the reel set. Of course, the more symbols you can connect, the bigger the payout.

Cascading Reels

Connecting a winning combo of symbols will cause the cascading reels engine to activate. This will initially remove the symbols that were involved in the win before dropping new symbols from above to fill the gaps that have been created. This sequence will continue until you fail to make a new win.

Soul Orbs

During the base game, it’s possible that the Red Wild Soul Orb and the Blue Wild Soul Orb can land in view upon the reels. If the red soul orb is present when a win is created, each symbol that was a part of the cluster will increase its multiplier value by +1. If the blue orb is present on the reels during a win, then each winning cluster made upon the reels will increase its multiplier value by x1.

Each win these wilds are then a part of will apply their multipliers to that win and increase in value even further. If both the red and the blue wild soul orbs are involved in the same win, their values will multiply each other before being applied to the win.

Hand Of Anubis Slot Bonus Features

Players can trigger two bonus rounds whilst playing the Hand of Anubis online slot, with both of these features offering up some interesting and exciting gameplay. Let’s take a more detailed look at what these are and, more importantly, what you can expect from them.

Underworld Feature

Landing 3 of the mummies mask scatter symbols in view will trigger the underworld feature. Once this bonus round is activated, you will notice that numbers appear at the bottom of the reels once you begin to hit winning connections. These are multiplier values, and the number of symbols involved in a winning cluster on that reel will then be transferred down to the multiplier. Look out for the Anubis Skull symbol too, as this has the ability to multiply those values further by x2, x3, x4, x5, or x10.

You will need the green orb symbol to land for the reel multipliers to be in play. This will then activate the value of the reel that it has appeared on and award you with an extra 3 free spins each time it does so. Activate more than one reel multiplier, and when a win is created, the multipliers will add together first before applying themselves to your win.

Judgement Feature

If, during the base game, 4 scatter symbols land in view, then the judgement feature will be triggered. This bonus round sees all regular symbols removed from the reels and replaced with blank blocks and special block symbols instead. You will initially be awarded 3 spins, and this time you’ll notice that the multiplier values are located at the top of the reels. Each time a special multiplier symbol lands on a reel, its value will be transferred to the top. The special symbols that can land on each reel are as follows:

  • Skull: Multiplier increase to the top of the reel between x1 – x100
  • Epic Skull: Multiplier increase to all multipliers between x1 – x100.
  • Anubis Skulls: Will multiply the values above it by x2 – x10.
  • Epic Anubis Skulls: Will multiply all values by x2 – x10.

In addition to the above symbols, there’s also the ice block that can land in view. This will be crushed, and a multiplier block will drop down to fill the space taking the value from above it. Furthermore, there’s a special crusher block that can appear too. This will smash all blocks beneath it, then tot up their values and add them to just one block. Players should note that any special symbol, ice block, or crusher that lands in view will reset the spin count to 3. Once the count reaches zero, then the bonus will end.

Bonus Buy

If you’re playing from a region where the bonus buy button is active, you can access the following two features instantly.

  • Underworld Bonus: Costs 129x bet to trigger.
  • Judgement Bonus: Costs 200x bet to trigger.

Pros

  • A very well designed slot.
  • Two exciting bonus rounds that both have great potential.

Cons

  • The darker side of Egypt has been covered several times before, which could put some players off.
  • Variable RTP rates are offered, with sone dropping below 90%.

Final Thoughts

Whilst some of the more recent releases from Hacksaw Gaming have been a little below par for this particular studio, it's safe to say that they are back to their very best with the release of Hand of Anubis. I personally like most things Egyptian, but it has to be said that Hacksaw Gaming has done a fantastic job of this slot, from the graphics and sound to the gameplay and exciting bonus rounds. Don't miss this one folks, give it a try.
