Slot Overview
Guitar Quest is a new release from Relax Gaming, and this high-variance slot is designed around a rock theme. It offers 1,024 ways to win, four different “Equalizer” features, two bonus modes, and a maximum win potential of up to 10,000x. It looks like it could be one of our favourite Relax Gaming releases of recent years, but how did it fare during our rigorous testing? Let’s find out.
Gameplay & Bonus Features
Guitar Quest is played on a 5-reel, 4-row layout with 1024 ways to win. You can bet from €0.10 to €100 per spin. The game runs a high variance maths model, and has an RTP of 96.10%.
In the base game, the core mechanic is the Equalizer Feature, and this can trigger randomly at the start of any spin. When it does, it can activate between 1 and 4 modifiers:
- Wild Jam: adds between 1 and 8 random wilds to the reels.
- Twin Riff Split: highlights between 6 and 10 positions before symbols land. Any symbol that lands on these positions is duplicated, counting as two symbols in one spot.
- Fired Up Multiplier: applies a multiplier of between 2x and 10x to any wins from that spin.
- Symbol Upgrade: removes the four lowest-paying symbols from the spin.
Now, the game’s main bonus is triggered by landing 3 or more bonus symbols, and this is where things get quite interesting. Before the round begins, you get to pick between two different bonus modes: Solo Mode or Backstage. The number of bonus symbols you triggered affects where you start, too.
In Solo Mode (which is a mini-game heavily inspired by Guitar Hero), you get to play through increasing levels of speed – up to 10 in total. You collect batteries to keep your energy metre “topped up”, and there’s a collector bar that moves left and right across the screen. This picks up coin values and boosters as it goes, with small coins paying 1-5x, medium coins paying 10-75x, large coins paying 100-500x, and an epic coin that pays 1,000x.
The second bonus, Backstage, is a slower, more “strategic” feature. Here, the Equalizer mechanic from the base game carries over. There’s one core difference, however: every power-up you unlock stays active for the rest of the bonus. You collect bonus symbols to upgrade your electric guitar, and as you do, your progression bar fills up. As you fill it up, new features are unlocked, and these stay unlocked for the duration of the bonus.
Bonus Buy & Enhanced Spin
Guitar Quest includes an Enhanced Spin option that increases the base game stake by 50%. In return, you double your chances of triggering the bonus. There are also two Bonus Buy options available: 100x for the standard bonus or 400x for the ultra bonus.

Theme & Design
Guitar Quest does an excellent job with the rock ‘n’ roll vibe, and we love it. It’s been a while since Push Gaming released Turn It Up, and Guitar Quest, we feel, is the first game we’ve played since then that really rivals it. Yes, there are some very strong Guitar Hero references (the bonus round, for example, looks exactly like the old PS2 game!), but aside from that, it’s almost entirely original, and we, truly, love it!
We’ve seen a lot of rock-inspired games, from Rock Bottom to Monsters of Rock Megaways, but Guitar Quest, for us, is one of the best-looking we’ve ever reviewed. It’s got an attitude; pretty much every part of the game is theme-specific and works well, and, naturally, there’s a very fitting soundtrack accompanying each spin, too!
Pros
- Solid theme and graphics; very intense (in a good way)
- Two totally different bonus modes
- Equalizer feature is very exciting
Cons
- Solo Mode is a bit gimmicky
- Bonus Buys aren’t available in all regions
- Max win is a bit low for the variance
Final Thoughts
Guitar Quest is one of the most creative releases Relax Gaming has put out in a long time, and it also happens to be one of our favourite releases, too. The rock 'n' roll theme is done perfectly, and we love how the Equalizer mechanic is implemented; it’s pretty much perfect.
Mechanically, the game is excellent; both bonuses are really exciting, and we love how different both of the bonus modes are, too. Sure, the maximum win potential of up to 10,000x isn’t the highest in the world and doesn’t entirely match the volatility profile, but other than that, this is about as good as it gets, and we mean that sincerely.
Top Notch
