Game Overview
Here’s another slightly cheeky game from newcomer developers Arcadem – the title “Guardians of Inari” has been carefully chosen, no doubt, to be just about similar enough to a well-known Disney property whilst also being just different enough to keep them out of trouble with the lawyers. Hopefully! This is a 25-pay line slot, though you are required to bet on all pay lines every spin. The RTP is right around the industry average at 96.11% and the maximum win from a single spin is 1,068x your stake, suggesting that Guardians of Inari video slot fits firmly in the lower-variance end of the spectrum.
A random wild modifier has been included which can activate at the beginning of any spin adding three wilds to the reels in random positions. During testing I am fairly certain that I always won when this modifier activated, although it is possible that I just got very lucky! There are two free spin modes as well, both of which require you to collect scatter symbols over subsequent spins. This is a good way of keeping players interested – you’ll almost always find that you have a few scatters collected for one of the features, so why would you stop playing?
As ever, we’ve snagged a free demo slot of Guardians of Inari from Arcadem for your enjoyment which you can find below. This is accessible on desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
Guardians Of Inari Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Aside from the obvious Guardians of the Galaxy influences shown in this game, the theme is also reminiscent of a classic land-based slot which uses similar imagery of Chinese lanterns for its royal symbols. It’s nice to see several influences blended together like this as it makes for a more interesting overall theme. The music goes well with the background and symbols, although I did find it became somewhat repetitive after an extended session of play.
Looking at the games paytable, there is no separate payout attached to either the wild or scatter symbols. This always feels a little bit disappointing but on the other hand I noticed very quickly that small wins occur extremely frequently whilst playing Guardians of Inari video slot. There are only four high-paying picture symbols, two of which pay 12x your stake for five-of-a-kind whilst the remaining two pay 6x. Again, these pay outs might have felt more disappointing if it wasn’t for the fact that they seem to occur much more frequently than other similar online slots.
Setting your stake is done by choosing how much you wish to bet on each of the games 25 pay lines. You can choose pennies at one end of the scale and €4.00 at the other, for a maximum bet of €100.00 per spin. I always say that betting €100.00 per spin on any online slot is completely insane, but if you ever are going to do it then choosing a low-variance game such as this is by far your best option.
Base Game & Modifiers
The base gameplay takes place on a standard 5×3 playfield with 25 pay lines spread across it. Wins are awarded for hitting three or more consecutive matching symbols from left-to-right – no shocking twists today! It would have been nice to see a few extra modifiers in Guardians of Inari, although the two free spin modes does go a little way towards making up for this. As it stands, a single modifier is included:
Random Wilds Feature
Activating at the start of any spin, this modifier adds three wild symbols to the reels in random positions. Whenever I saw this feature activate during testing it always seemed to result in a winning spin, although the pay table does not guarantee this will always be the case. The randomly placed additional wild symbols make it much easier to win on multiple pay lines from a single spin.
Guardians Of Inari Slot Bonus Feature
Most online slots require you to hit three or more scatters on a single spin to activate their free spins or bonus rounds. Things work a little bit differently in Guardians of Inari – there are red “Good Mask” scatters, and you’ll need to collect ten of those whilst playing to trigger the regular free spins round. Additionally, a dark blue “Evil Mask” scatter symbol appears far less frequently but collecting four of these symbols will trigger a much more lucrative bonus round. Full details regarding both features below:
Good Mask Free Spins Feature
After you finish collecting ten of the regular scatter symbols the game will reward you with ten free spins. Listen carefully as the reels begin to spin on each free spin, as if you hear a fight taking place in the background it means that you have just collected an additional random wild for all your subsequent spins.
For example, the third time you hear a fight place three wild symbols will be randomly added to the reels for all subsequent free spins. This feature is capped at a maximum of five wild symbols, although with just ten free spins I didn’t ever manage to hit this cap during testing.
Evil Mask Free Spins Feature
Finally, the evil mask free spins work in much the same way as the normal free spins feature, however, this time around each fight that you hear adds two random wilds to the reels instead of just one. The same cap of five fights applies to this bonus round too, although if you were to reach it in the Evil Mask spins this would mean every remaining free spin would have a massive ten wilds added to the reels!
This feature is where the big money can be won, however I only managed to trigger it twice during my testing. It’s definitely much rarer than the regular free spin feature.
Guardians Of Inari Slot Review Final Thoughts
Guardians of Inari is an interesting low-variance slot game that will have fans of less risky online slots coming back time and time again. It’s a shame the top win isn’t a bit higher, however that is literally the point of a low-variance machine. Perhaps they’ll increase it a little bit for the sequel? Only time will tell!
