Theme & Design

Grunt Gold is quite unique-looking, and now that we think of it, it’s strangely unusual to see orc-themed video slots online! The game’s presentation switches between two different scenes. In the base game you’re outside a rugged orc camp, with a wooden spiked fence behind the reels, and the ugly orc on the left-hand side of the screen.

If you trigger the free spins bonus, you’re taken into a fiery underground forge, and here, you’ll see chains, molten metal, and, presumably, a well-oiled forging operation! Now, given its unique nature, it’s quite hard to think of any similar games, but we guess it has some slight similarities to Play’n GO’s Forge of Gems and possibly ReelPlay’s The Trolls’ Treasure.

Grunt Gold Gameplay & Bonus Features

Grunt Gold is played on a 6×4 grid layout. There are no paylines, as the slot uses a 4,096-ways-to-win mechanic. Wins are formed by matching three or more symbols on adjacent reels from left to right. Any symbols involved in a win disappear, with new ones dropping down to take their place. You can stake between €0.10 and €50 per spin. The game is available in two RTP settings: 96.22% and 94.31%.

Now, Grunt Gold’s entire feature mechanic revolves around the three Bounty Chests sitting above the reels. Token symbols can land on the grid, and when they do, they add between 1 and 7 points to one of the chests before disappearing. Sometimes, tokens can fill up all three chests at once, too.

Each chest can hold up to 7 points, and hitting the right thresholds triggers different modifier boosts. When the Green Chest is activated, it drops clusters of matching symbols onto the grid, while the Blue Chest adds extra Wild symbols to random positions. The Red Chest adds multiple win multipliers, each worth up to 10x, to random symbols.

Grunt Gold also contains two different free spins modes. Landing three or four scatter symbols awards 8 or 10 Gold Grab Free Spins. During both rounds, the base game mechanics remain, but your Bounty Chest points no longer reset between spins. 

Every time a chest reaches at least 5 points in the bonus, its effect triggers, and then the chest resets. You end up seeing a lot more modifiers during the bonus round than in the base game. Grunt Gold also contains a “super bonus”: Endless Hoard Free Spins. This is triggered by landing five scatter symbols in view, and doing so awards 12 free spins. During this feature, you are guaranteed to land at least two token symbols on the first spin.
