Game Overview

Slot provider Sneaky Slots’ Gopnik is a relatively controversial release, showcasing the iconic Eastern European subculture and doing so with personality, satire, and more bonuses and features than we’ve perhaps ever seen in a slot! There’s everything from wild generators, nudging wilds, scratch cards, hold-and-win-style features, dice battles, and more, although a lower-end maximum win potential of 6,666x may turn away those looking for monster win potential. Let’s see what the game has to offer in this review!

Theme & Design

Even if you’ve never heard the word “Gopnik”, you’ll recognise the stereotypes instantly: Adidas tracksuits, squatting at the bottom of stairs, bottles of cheap vodka, babushkas, and more, and the game plunges you right into the depths of crumbling Soviet-era apartment blocks!

Of course, with Sneaky Slots’ two previous releases, Freak Show Revelation and Nip Tuck, we already knew this software provider was going to be controversial, and it appears as though they’re determined to showcase that in all of their releases.

Visually, Gopnik is pretty well-designed, and behind the reels you’ll see a pretty bleak-looking backdrop showing dilapidated apartments, street trash, and worn-out carpets. The game’s characters, the Gopniks, have all seen better days, too!

Gopnik Gameplay & Bonus Features

At its core, Gopnik is a five-reel, four-row, 30 fixed payline slot, and you can bet between €0.10 and €500 per spin, with two ante bet options:

  • Sneaky Bet: Costs 2x your stake and increases the chance of triggering a bonus.
  • Super Sneaky Bet: Costs 5x your stake and has an ‘even higher’ chance of landing a bonus.

The game has a slightly below-average RTP of 95.68%, and it’s designed around a medium variance maths model, which is, perhaps, why the maximum win potential is on the lower side at 6,666x.

There’s a huge number of bonuses and features within the game, and first up is the Babushka Wild. The Babushka appears only on the leftmost reel and highlights up to four positions when she lands. If a Gopnik symbol lands on a highlighted tile, she “knits them a balaclava”, and you are then simply awarded an instant prize of up to 50x. There is also a Burner Phone feature; when this symbol lands on the 5th reel, a random number of symbols on the grid are converted into wilds.

Nolimit City’s xNudge Wilds make an appearance here, too. These 4-high stacked wilds always nudge to fill entire reels when they land, and every nudge increases their multiplier by +1. If two xNudges land together, their multipliers stack, too.

Landing 3 scatters triggers the Scratch Card Bonus, where wheel-rim symbols hide prizes. Revealing 3 Dice awards Street Roll, while 3 Calculators awards Kiosk Raid.

Street Roll

Street Roll adds a 6th reel, and Gopniks on reels 1 and 6 can hold dice tokens, too. If both outer reels land dice, or if it’s triggered through the Scratch Card bonus, the Cheeki Breeki Dice game begins. Two dice are then rolled, and the left die reveals multipliers while the right one reveals wilds.

If you roll a pair, you get a re-roll. Three consecutive pairs trigger +5 spins. Three identical pairs in a row awards the game’s max win of 6,666x!

There is also a Super Street Roll Bonus, which is an upgraded version of the previous feature. Here, you start with 9 spins, and multipliers don’t reset between spins. You can also land up to four xNudge Wilds in one spin.

Kiosk Raid

The next bonus is Kiosk Raid. When triggered, you enter a hold-and-win-style bonus with 3 spins. These reset whenever a money label lands. The top row above the grid displays multipliers from 1x to 100x. Landing labels underneath these values sees them locking in place.

There are also a number of modifiers, including Upgrade, which boosts a label’s modifier; Double, which doubles a random label; Collect, which adds a label to the total multiplier; and Super Bonus, which instantly upgrades you to the Super Kiosk Raid feature. This Super Kiosk Raid expands the game grid with two additional rows, and any modifiers you land during this feature affect all labels.

Pros

  • A HUGE variety of bonuses and features.
  • Two core bonus rounds, each with separate Super Bonuses.
  • Unique, albeit controversial theme.

Cons

  • Somewhat low maximum win potential of 6,666x.
  • Medium volatility won’t suit all players.
  • The Gopnik theme may offend some.

Gopnik Slot Review Final Thoughtd

Gopnik is messy, loud, packed to the brim with features, and does a pretty good job of bringing all of the above together, we feel. Sneaky Slots is clearly happy to take risks in its games, and here, they’ve done so with confidence. We like the fact that the game offers so much action, whether it’s the xNudge symbols, wild generators, dice battles, scratch cards, or the four different bonus rounds that can be triggered.

Our only real complaint is the fact that the maximum win potential is quite low, sitting at just 6,666x. Of course, that’s still a massive win if you manage to hit it, but it does feel a little on the low side, especially for a game that contains so much action.

On the whole, however, Gopnik is a solid release, and if you’re happy with the slightly controversial theme and can get your head around the TONNE of bonuses and features, it’s well worth a spin or two, we feel!
