Slot Overview

Gates of Pyroth is a Pragmatic Play cluster-pays slot built around tumbling wins, expanding multipliers, wilds that can be worth up to 100x, and two different free spins modes. With a Super Free Spins round and a maximum win potential of 10,000x, it looks good on paper. How did it live up during testing? Find out in this detailed Gates of Pyroth slot review!

Theme & Design

Pragmatic Play is no stranger when it comes to producing good-looking slots, and Gates of Pyroth is no exception. The studio has chosen to lean into a dark, supernatural fantasy style here. The reels sit in a misty forest, with a (rather demonic-looking) jaguar on the right-hand side.

The game’s primarily blue colour scheme may not suit every player, but Gates of Pyroth looks good, and it’s got a certain “quality” feel to it, like most of the provider’s games. It gives us a bit of a Jaguar Drop vibe and is quite far from “classic” Pragmatic Play like you see in titles like Starlight Princess.

Gates of Pyroth Gameplay & Bonus Features

Gates of Pyroth is designed around a 6×6 grid. The game uses a cluster pays mechanic. Wins are formed by matching 5+ symbols horizontally or vertically. You can bet from €0.20 to €240 per spin, and the game’s RTP is set at 96.52%. Gates of Pyroth also uses a tumbling reels mechanic, so each time you form a win, the winning symbols disappear and new ones drop down to fill their place.

Now, the wild symbol in Gates of Pyroth is quite important, and it can land on all reels. When it appears, it carries a multiplier of up to 100x. Whenever a wild hits, the multiplier is added to the meter above its reel. During tumbles, any collected multipliers apply to all wins formed on that reel, and multiple meters can combine, too.

The game’s main feature, a free spins bonus, is triggered by landing 3+ scatter symbols anywhere in view. Doing so awards between 10 and 20 free spins, and during the bonus, collected multipliers don’t reset between tumbles. If you manage to trigger the Super Free Spins Bonus by landing 6 scatter symbols or through the Bonus Buy, the wild symbols are guaranteed to display a minimum multiplier of 10x when they land, too.

Bonus Buy

Gates of Pyroth contains two Bonus Buy options. The standard free spins can be purchased for 100x, while the Super Free Spins cost 500x.

Pros

  • Wild multipliers worth up to 100x.
  • Win up to 10,000x your bet.
  • Multipliers stick during the free spins.

Cons

  • Very volatile, especially in the base game.
  • Super Bonus Buy is very expensive at 500x.
  • Feels VERY similar to all the other “cluster-tumble-multiplier” Pragmatic Play slots.

Gates of Pyroth Slot Review Final Thoughts

Gates of Pyroth is a good-looking game, and we’re happy to see that Pragmatic Play has chosen to move away from the Starlight Princess/Gates of Olympus genres that we’ve seen regurgitated a million times in the past few years. Gates of Pyroth looks great, the graphics are clear, and the theme is different.

Ultimately, however, it’s just the same game that we’ve seen a thousand times before. Besides the theme, there is absolutely nothing original about the slot, and we get it; Pragmatic Play wants to capitalise on a popular game mechanic. But, really? They can’t come up with anything remotely unique?

Ok, Gates of Pyroth is a fine game, and it plays well and offers a decent maximum win potential of 10,000x. But don’t spin the reels expecting something unique or different. If you like this style of game, you’ll probably feel at home playing Gates of Pyroth. If you’re already sick to death of them (like us), then this is one to avoid.
