Game Overview
You have to hand it to the Swedes; they sure know how to put together some cracking online slots. I bet some of you didn’t know just how many tier-one slot development companies were born in Sweden, and in fact, I surprised myself as I didn’t know a couple of these were Swedish-owned until I did some research. The most prominent developers (as there are many more) that herald from Sweden are Quickspin, Play’n Go, Yggdrasil, NetEnt, Thunderkick, and Nolimit City – tell me you’ve not heard of any of those! Well, while less known, I’ll be looking at a slot from another Swedish developer today: Fortuna Gold from Fantasma Games, a 6-reel title with 10,000 paylines, an RTP of 96%, and a max win of 2,000x bet.
Can Fantasma Games consider itself on the same level as those developers above? Not at this moment in time, but iGaming pedigree is strong in Sweden, so you wouldn’t bet on it happening at some point in the future. The slot we’re looking at today is undoubtedly a solid effort, as it has a base game Coin Collect feature, two bonus games, four fixed jackpots, and a buy bonus option for those players who want to cut to the chase and get straight into the action.
Whether you’re new to Fantasma Games or have played their slots before, why not take their Fortuna Gold slot demo for a few spins? It’s free to play below.
Fortuna Gold Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
Fortuna, the Roman Goddess of Luck, Fortune, and Fate, is the theme of the Fortuna Gold slot, which is understandable as if you believe there is such a thing as luck, it goes hand in hand with gambling. Why else would there be so many luck-themed slots around? Like the rest of them, Fantasma Games knows that many slot fans are superstitious and likelier to play slots they deem lucky. That’s why Fantasma has touched on this theme numerous times in the past with titles such as Fortune Llama and Flower Fortunes Megaways.
Bringing myself back on topic, the reels of Fortuna Gold feature nine regular-paying symbols broken down as high, medium, and low-paying. The Red, Green and Purple characters are the high-paying symbols that pay 5x, 2.5x, and 2.5x, respectively, for 5-symbol combinations. The Red, Green, and Blue gems are the medium-paying symbols that all pay 1.5x for five matching symbols, and as for the low-paying symbols, these are the Ace, King, and Queen, which all pay 1x. There’s also an inclusion of a wild symbol, and whilst it cannot appear on every reel, it will substitute for all standard symbols.
The betting options available on the Fortuna Gold range from a minimum of €0.20 per spin to a maximum of €1,000, but I’m not convinced the higher end of that range will appear on the real money versions of this slot.
Fortuna Gold Slot Base Game & Modifiers
The 10,000 ways offered by Fortuna Gold are made possible to a 6-reel configuration of 4-5-5-5-4, which requires 3 or more matching symbols on consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel to complete a winning combination.
Coin Collect Feature
The coin collect feature adds another dimension to an otherwise underwhelming base game by allowing you to collect coin values of between 0.25x and 25x your stake. If a Collector symbol lands on the same spin as Coins Symbols, it collects their values and pays them out.
Double Chance
Double Chance features are commonplace these days, and on Fortuna Gold, you can activate this feature for 25% on top of your spin bet. Doing so will double your chances of triggering the free spins bonus.
Fortuna Gold Slot Bonus Features
Another impressive aspect of Fantasma’s Fortuna Gold is there are two bonus games to aim for. The first is the Fortuna Coin Avalanche, which triggers when two or more Collect symbols land on the reels, while the second is a free spins bonus requiring four bonus symbols to trigger.
Fortuna Coin Avalanche Feature
All the action takes place on reels two, three, four, and five, with all other reels removed. All regular symbols have also vanished and have been replaced by blanks and coin symbols. You receive one spin initially but earn an additional spin each time a new bonus symbol lands. Each time a bonus symbol lands, it avalanches down to the bottom of the reels, and if you manage to fill an entire row with bonus symbols, you’ll win a jackpot:
- Row 1: The Mini Jackpot worth 10x.
- Row 2: The Minor Jackpot worth 50x
- Row 3: The Major Jackpot worth 200x.
- Row 4: The Mega Jackpot worth 1,000x.
- Row 5: The Grand Jackpot worth 2,000x.
This bonus game continues until you fill all positions on the reels and thus win all jackpots or receive a spin that yields no additional bonus symbols. At the end, you receive the combined values of all coin symbols.
Free Spins Feature
While it’s labelled as a free spins bonus game, this bonus looks and feels more like a Hold & Win game, though different to most you might have triggered before. You receive 10 free spins, but individually spinning positions now replace the standard reels. The regular symbols are removed, and the only symbols that can land on the reels are blanks, Coin Symbols, Bonus Symbols, Jackpot Symbols, and Thunder Symbols. Plus, each time a symbol lands, it disappears, increasing a persistent multiplier for that reel position by 1x. As they land, Coins, again with values between 0.25x and 25x, pay their values multiplied by the persistent multiplier for their position.
If Thunder symbols land, they will increase the multiplier of randomly selected reel positions, while four or more Bonus symbols trigger an additional 5 free spins. As for the Jackpot symbols, each instance will unlock a new jackpot. The first unlocks the Mini for 10x, while successive instances unlock the Minor (50x), Major (200x), Mega (1,000x), and Grand (5,000x). You win the highest unlocked jackpot at the end of the bonus.
Bonus Buy
If you’d rather skip past the base game or prefer playing a high-risk game, you can use the Buy Bonus feature to buy straight into either of the bonus games. The Fortuna Coin Avalanche Bonus costs 40x, while for 80x, you’ll trigger the Free Spins Bonus.
Pros
- Two unique bonus games.
- The fixed jackpots are an added bonus.
Cons
- Low max win.
Fortuna Gold Slot Review Final Thoughts
Fantasma Games always strikes me as a provider that is consistently on the periphery, which pretty much sums up their Fortuna Gold slot. It's neither brilliant nor poor, just on the outside peering in and what might have been.
