Slot Overview

Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Match is a football-themed spin on the classic fishing formula from Blueprint Gaming, and this fish-collection-based mechanic once again makes a reappearance. With familiar mechanics, a Power Play option, and a maximum win potential of just 2,500x, is this another example of a sequel that… nobody asked for? Let’s find out.

Theme & Design

Fishin’ Frenzy games, whether it’s the original or later spin-offs like Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways and Fishin’ Frenzy Christmas, have become some of the most popular slot games in history.

Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Match, however, does away with the classic seaside setting for a football stadium, instead, and you’ll see the reels set on a literal football pitch (or soccer, for our US readers!)

Yes, it retains the familiar-looking mechanics we’ve all become used to, but other than that (and the weirdly positioned football pitch), there’s nothing really new here, and certainly nothing that makes the game stand out in a good way!

Fishin Frenzy The Big Match Gameplay & Bonus Features

Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Match runs on a 5-reel, 3-row layout with 10 fixed paylines, paying left to right, and betting options range from €0.10 to €100 per spin. The game operates on a below-average RTP of 95%, which is pretty much in keeping with what we’ve seen from recent Blueprint Gaming releases.

Now, in the base game, Fish symbols can land with instant cash values attached, and these are collected when a Fisherman symbol appears on the reels. Any collected fish values are added together and paid immediately, but the Fisherman symbol only appears during the Free Games/Power Play modes.

The game’s main bonus round is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view, awarding 10, 15, or 20 free spins respectively. During the bonus, the value tags on Fish symbols become active, and whenever a Fisherman lands, it collects all Fish symbols currently in view. Collecting four Fisherman symbols during Free Games activates The Big Match, too, which then upgrades the lowest-paying Fish symbol to the next value level and awards 5 additional Free Games.

You can upgrade the bonus three times, like this, and there’s also a new Can of Worms symbol. If this lands with a Fisherman AND Fish symbols, it collects every Fish value, even if it’s not on screen!

Power Play

Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Match also contains a Power Play mode, which allows you to spin at 5x your base game stake. In this mode, only Fish, Fisherman, and Bonus symbols appear on the reels.

Pros

  • Familiar fishing mechanics that are easy to understand.
  • Upgrades are possible during the Free Spins.
  • Power Play option is available in select regions.

Cons

  • Below-average RTP of 95%.
  • Limited innovation compared to similar fishing slots.
  • Incredibly low maximum win potential of 2,500x.

Fishin Frenzy The Big Match Slot Review Final Thoughts

Fishin’ Frenzy games aren’t our style - but that doesn’t mean we don’t understand the popularity of them, or the reason why Blueprint Gaming continues to release new spinoffs; no criticisms there.

What we simply don’t understand is why Blueprint would choose to put so much effort into releasing a new game like this - and cap the maximum win potential at just 2,500x. For us, it makes zero sense.

Yes, Fishin’ Frenzy: The Big Match contains a couple of new mechanics, but overall, it’s boring, uninspiring - and frankly, not appealing, we feel. There’s just no reason to play this when so many other titles exist (most of which offer exponentially better win potential!

Yes, there’s some fun to be had here, and for casual players who don’t even know what “max win” means, it’s a game that may appeal. For us, and serious slots fans, however - this is yet another unnecessary spinoff that doesn’t feel remotely creative or enjoyable.
