Slot Overview

Fins of Fortune is an ocean-themed video slot from Gaming Corps that offers a collection-based mechanic, Dual Free Spins, two different Wild characters, Upgraded Free Spins, and four fixed jackpots! With so much going on, is this a game we’d recommend playing, or one to avoid? Find out in this detailed review!

Theme & Design

We don’t review Gaming Corps’ games that often, and that’s simply because they don’t release many slots! The games we have checked out, however, are generally pretty good, but it’s clear they like the fishing theme a lot at the moment: Fishing Pro: Reel Collect and Bass Rewards Smash4Cash were the last two games they released!

Fins of Fortune is pretty consistent with the quality they’ve shown in previous releases, and visually, it looks pretty good. The game is set in an underwater cavern filled with ancient stone ruins, glowing shark statues, and a steep drop-off below the reels. Above, you’ll see the game’s four fixed jackpots: Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega.

Fins of Fortune is also, clearly, designed around a mobile-first principle. While the game does render fine on desktop devices, it opens in portrait mode, which is designed for mobile players!

Fins of Fortune Gameplay & Bonus Features

Fins of Fortune uses a 4-reel, 5-row layout and a 1024-ways-to-win mechanic, so you don’t need to worry about watching any paylines! The betting options range from €0.10 to €50.00 per spin, and the game is designed with a slightly below-average RTP of 95.82%.

The base game revolves around Coin symbols and Treasure Coins, which can land on any position in view. The Coin symbols carry values of up to 1,000x, while the Treasure Coins carry four jackpots: Mini, Minor, Major, and Mega. There’s also a Shark Wild that can land on the top position of reel 3 only. This substitutes for all symbols bar the Coins and Treasure Coins.

When the Shark Wild lands, it can trigger various modifiers, including adding extra amounts to any Coins in view, adding new Coins, or collect the total of all the Coins and Treasure Coins currently in view. It can also randomly trigger its own Free Spins Bonus.

The Orca Wild acts similarly, but it can only land on the bottom position on reel 3. It substitutes for symbols in the same way as the Shark Wild, but its modifiers are slightly different. It doubles any coin values in view and can also collect and add new ones. The Orca Wild can also trigger its own Free Spins Bonus.

The two standard Free Spins options are:

  • Shark Wild Free Spins: You receive 10 free spins, and the Shark Wild is locked in place on every spin. There is a higher chance of the Wild activating its modifier’s effects during the bonus round, and it’s guaranteed to trigger the Shark Adder Feature whenever Coins land.
  • Orca Wild Free Spins: You also receive 10 free spins, but here, the Orca Wild is locked, and the Double Feature triggers every time Coins land.

If, during either bonus round, the opposite wild lands, the feature is upgraded to the Fortune Free Spins. This feature sees both Wild symbols combining, offering far more frequent and valuable Coin-focused effects and modifiers.

Bonus Buy/Feature Boost

Fins of Fortune includes four different Bonus Buy/Feature Boost options:

  • Buy Bonus: Costs 80x to purchase the Shark Wild or Orca Free Spins
  • Buy Premium Free Spins: Costs 200x for the enhanced Free Spins, where both Wilds lock
  • Feature Guaranteed Ante Bet: Costs 5x your base game stake and guarantees a Shark Wild or Orca Wild on every spin
  • Hot Bet: Costs 1.5x your base game stake and doubles the chance of triggering the Free Spins

Pros

  • Win up to 5,000x.
  • Clear, well-defined collect mechanics designed around the Wilds.
  • Multiple upgrades available in the Free Spins.

Cons

  • Base game can feel quite limited.
  • Bonus Buy/Feature Boosts are unavailable in some regions.
  • Max win could be higher.

Fins of Fortune Slot Review Final Thoughts

Fins of Fortune is a decent, feature-driven slot that clearly puts quite a lot of emphasis on the Wild mechanics and the Progressive Free Spins. This does, in our experience, mean base game hits are fairly few and far between.

We do like the fact that the Shark and Orca Wilds are both quite different, and this does give the game a sense of balance. It’s also nice to have the Fortune Free Spins as an “end goal” in terms of unlocking the game’s main win potential, even if it’s not the most frequently appearing feature in the world!

Still, be prepared for a pretty volatile gaming experience, especially if you’re playing using the Bonus Buy/Feature Boost mechanics. The game’s biggest win potential, in our opinion, is locked behind the upgraded Free Spins, but at 200x, the Premium Bonus Buy isn’t the most expensive in the world, so it’s not a major issue.

Overall, Fins of Fortune is a decent-looking slot, and the maximum win potential of 5,000x, while not the highest, should tempt a fair number of players. It’s not groundbreaking, sure, but it delivers what it promises, and if you’re looking for an action-packed, exciting, and underwater adventure, this may be one to check out!
