Game Overview

Slot developer Kitsune Studios is back with Evil Dozen, a medium variance slot that’s designed around a five-reel, four-row layout and offers sticky wild multipliers, two bonus games, and a maximum win potential of up to 7,500x! Learn everything you need to know about the game here in this review.

Theme & Design

Kitsune Studios is still a fairly young iGaming developer, and Evil Dozen marks just their 4th release. They’re clearly still finding their footing in the online gambling world, but their earlier games like The Library and Club Cabana were OK, although certainly not groundbreaking.

As a Hacksaw Gaming partner, Kitsune Studios’ slots look very similar to Hacksaw’s own releases, and Evil Dozen is no exception. You’ll see Hacksaw’s familiar game user interface and layout, and the game itself is gingerbread man-themed, which makes for quite a unique look and feel.

There’s not a huge amount happening, but you can see some gingerbread houses behind the reels, and there’s a variety of evil and cunning-looking gingerbread men on the reels, too.

Evil Dozen Gameplay & Bonus Features

Evil Dozen is built around a five-reel, four-row layout, and there are 16 fixed paylines in play. The game has a default RTP of 96.33%, and you can bet between €0.10 and €100 per spin.

There’s quite a lot of bonus action in the game, and first up is Gingerbread Houses. These are, effectively, wild multipliers that can land onscreen. There are three types of House: low, medium, and high. The multipliers attached to each House change, and can range between 2x and 200x. Plus, if you land 3 Gingerbread Houses anywhere in view, you’ll trigger the She’s a Witch Spins bonus.

In this feature, all of the landed Gingerbread Houses become sticky, and they all reveal a new multiplier value. You are then awarded 5 free spins, and the wilds lock in place for the duration of the spins. Landing additional Gingerbread Houses sees them also locking in place, and +1 spin is awarded.

Landing three or more FS symbols triggers the Revolution Spins feature. Each scatter will then reveal a number – either 3 or 4 – and the sum of all numbers is the number of free spins you’re awarded.

During this feature, any wins you hit aren’t paid to you until the end. Instead, the win amounts from all winning combos and the multiplier values of any landed Gingerbread Houses are collected above the reels to create a final win that’s paid at the end of the feature. You can also land special Oven symbols during the feature. This can add random multipliers or reveal a $ sign that adds extra cash to your current total win.

Bonus Buy

Evil Dozen contains four Bonus Buy/FeatureSpins options:

  • BonusHunt FeatureSpins: Costs 3x your base game stake and makes it 5x more likely that you’ll trigger the bonus
  • Gingerbread Houses FeatureSpins: Costs 2x, and guarantees a minimum of 1 Gingerbread House per spin.
  • She’s a Witch Spins: Costs 100x to trigger this bonus round instantly.
  • Revolution Spins: Costs 400x and awards between 9-12 free spins.

Pros

  • Sticky Wild multipliers can get impressively high.
  • Win up to 7,500x.
  • Two bonus rounds with difference mechanics and volatility.

Cons

  • Revolution Spins can feel a bit slow due to the delayed payouts.
  • Lower RTP configurations of the game exist.
  • It’s quite obviously a re-skin of Hacksaw Gaming's “Pug Life”.

Evil Dozen Slot Review Final Thoughts

Evil Dozen is visually half-decent, and the mechanics inside the game are good, too. However, anyone familiar with Hacksaw Gaming will immediately recognise the DNA here. Kitsune Studios is a Hacksaw partner, and Evil Dozen feels extremely similar to Pug Life. It appears as though all that’s changed is the theme, and a few small mechanics, but other than that, it’s basically the same game - for better or worse.

That being said, the game does offer plenty of action. The Gingerbread Houses mechanic is the best, offering you sticky wild multipliers that can grow pretty fast, especially during the She’s a Witch Spins feature. Sure, the theme isn’t the best, and the maximum win potential of 7,500x isn’t the highest by 2025’s standards, but it’s an OK slot; just don’t expect anything brand new or unique.
