Slot Overview

Eternal Duel is a high-volatility video slot from Hacksaw Gaming, and you’ll be playing in front of Zeus and Hades as they go up against one another. It’s a feature-heavy game designed around DuelReels, Free Spins, Multipliers, and with a maximum win potential of 15,000x, it looks appealing on paper. Does Eternal Duel live up to its godly ambitions, however? Let’s find out.

Theme & Design

Eternal Duel is designed around a pretty grand, mythological theme, and (we’re glad to say) it does away with Hacksaw’s overused comic-book approach and introduces some impressive cinematic visuals instead. You’ll see Zeus himself in the upper half of the screen, surrounded by blue colours, while Hades takes up the bottom half, with, of course, fiery reds.

If you’re a fan of games likeZeus vs Hades: Gods of War or Zeus Ze Zecond, then Eternal Duel will probably feel right at home for you. It’s definitely one of the better-looking Hacksaw Gaming releases we’ve seen, and we’d be happy if all of their future releases looked like this!

Gameplay & Bonus Features

Eternal Duel uses a 5-reel, 5-row layout with 19 fixed paylines. Wins are paid from left to right. You can bet between €0.10 and €50 per spin, and the game is offered in four RTP configurations, with the top being 96.42%.

Now, Eternal Duel’s core mechanic is the DuelReels. When a VS symbol lands and forms part of a win, it expands into a DuelReel Wild. Zeus and Hades then duel, with the winner applying a multiplier ranging from 2x to 100x to the entire reel. If more than one DuelReels contribute to the same win, their multipliers are combined, too.

Landing 3 or more FS scatters triggers the Free Spins bonus. These Scatter symbols then expand into FS DuelReels, where two free-spin values duel and combine to determine the total number of spins awarded. FS symbols can also display upgrades, unlocking higher bonus rounds. There are three different Free Spins modes available, with Hades Havoc triggered by landing 3 FS DuelReels. This starts you with at least 6 Free Spins and introduces Reel Multipliers at the top and bottom of each reel. Relic and Cyclops symbols increase or multiply these values, and they are then used by DuelReels during battles.

Zeus Fury is triggered by landing 4 FS DuelReels. Again, you receive a minimum of 6 Free Spins. All of the same features as Hades Havoc are present here, with the added benefit that regular Wilds always inherit Reel Multipliers based on their position. Multiple Wild multipliers in the same win are added together, too.

Finally, there’s the Hidden Epic Bonus, Eternal Destruction, triggered by landing 5 FS DuelReels. Here, you begin with a minimum of 10 Free Spins, and every spin guarantees at least one Wild, one Relic or Cyclops, and one DuelReel.

FeatureSpins/Bonus Buy

Eternal Duel, like all Hacksaw Gaming releases today, offers a few FeatureSpins/Bonus Hunt options:

  • BonusHunt FeatureSpins: Costs 3x and makes each spin 5x more likely to trigger a bonus.
  • Godly FeatureSpins: Costs 50x and guarantees at least 1 DuelReel.
  • Deadly FeatureSpins: Costs 1,000x and guarantees at least 4 DuelReels.
  • Hades Havoc Free Spins: Costs 80x.
  • Zeus Fury Free Spins: Costs 300x

Pros

  • Solid maximum win potential of 15,000x.
  • DuelReels + Multipliers work well together.
  • Plenty of FeatureSpins/Bonus Buy options.

Cons

  • Quite similar to previous “Duel’ games.
  • Multiple RTP configurations available.
  • Complex mechanics can be a bit overwhelming at first.

Final Thoughts

Eternal Duel is a clear example of Hacksaw Gaming choosing to stick (mostly) with mechanics they already know are familiar. As you’ll see, DuelReels form the backbone of the game, and yes, they are nothing new. Still, they’re presented in a decent way, and to be honest, we want to give Hacksaw Gaming credit where it’s due:

Eternal Duel looks superb. This is likely something we’ve never said about Hacksaw’s games before; generally speaking, we dislike the look and feel of them and often feel the mechanics used are boring, same-same-y, or just repeated mechanics, and while that might be the case with Eternal Duel, the design, at least, is a solid step in the right direction.

We also like how there are plenty of FeatureSpins/Bonus Buy options, even if the Deadly FeatureSpins do cost a mouth-watering 1,000x! Still, for a game with a maximum win potential of 15,000x, and for a provider who, we feel, has been quite lazy recently, Eternal Duel is definitely a step in the right direction, and, dare we say, it may even be a game we check out for ourselves once it’s live!
