Game Overview

After opening the latest online slot from Peter & Sons, I immediately felt a sense of drama and anticipation; I suspect this may be related to the musical score; it’s not a full orchestral composition, but there’s enough brass and woodwind to give it a suitably epic feel. Let’s not forget about the impressively sized dragon, who has wrapped himself around the entire reel set as if to say: “what are you going to do about it?”. The vital statistics for Dragonblox Gigablox include fifty pay lines, a 96% RTP, and a maximum win of 5,000x your bet – assuming that I understand the slightly cryptic rules page correctly.

The headline feature is, of course, the “Gigablox”, featured in the game title. Gigablox are giant symbols that range between 2×2 and 6×6 in size, and at least one is guaranteed to land on every spin. A three-spin feature has also been included, termed the “Monster Jackpot” feature in the game rules, but this is only a warm-up compared to the Monster Free Spins feature! Throw in the “Golden Bet” bonus bet and bonus buy facility, and you have a well-rounded feature set that should please almost any player.

I feel confident in saying that the dragon is undoubtedly the most common mythical beast among slot developers! My evidence? A quick browse of our review library here at Demoslot turns up dozens of results; there are recent hit slots such as Dragon’s Fire Megaways and Dragon’s Cache, as well as older hits like Pragmatic Play’s excellent Dragon Tiger. I also noticed that the dragon never seems to play second fiddle to anybody – he’s always the star of the show, right there in the game title… or not at all! I guess this makes sense, though – would YOU mess with a ten-tonne fire-breathing reptilian giant?

You won’t find any dragons on the paytable of Dragonblox Gigablox! Instead, five hero characters make up the game’s high-paying symbols, starting with an intimidating knight armed with a huge sword and armour. He will pay you 8x your bet for a full payline of six of a kind, whilst a smaller dwarf-looking character takes second place with a return of 5x for all six symbols. A female hero donning a bow and arrow is next, worth 4x your bet for a complete payline, with the final high-paying spot being shared between a wizard and the palace messenger boy at 2.4x the stake for all six symbols. The wild pays identically to the top-paying symbol at 8x your bet, whilst the low-paying symbols range between 0.8x to 1.2x the current stake for a full pay line of six of a kind.

The minimum bet of €0.50 per round is a little higher than most other top-tier slots and could be too much for those with very small bankrolls. However, most high rollers should be covered by the maximum bet of €50.00.

Base Game & Modifiers

Dragonblox Gigablox Slot Base Game
Dragonblox Gigablox slot base game

I do love it when developers try to give their online slots a bit of a story: “Treasure hunters arrive, with fright in their eyes they gaze at the gates of the old mines. Here dwells the legendary red dragon on piles of gold and gems!”. That’s all we get, unfortunately, and it doesn’t have much bearing on the slot whatsoever; perhaps the idea is that we write our own ending.

To do so, you’ll be betting on the main game, which has a 6×6 playfield with 50 paylines that award prizes from left to right. There are two main bonus rounds, discussed in the next section, and a handful of unique base game features detailed below.

Gigablox

At least one of these giant symbols is guaranteed to appear on every spin. Gigablox can appear in all sizes from 2×2 up to 6×6 and behave like a cluster of identical symbols in that a 2×2 will be evaluated as if it were four separate symbols.

Lock “n” Blox

These special symbols remain sticky after landing on the playfield, lying in wait until more appear in adjacent positions to form a larger pattern. The bigger the pattern, the higher the payout.

Golden Bet Bonus Bet

The bonus bet facility costs an additional 50% on top of the regular price per spin in return for enhanced odds for hitting the two main bonus rounds, as well as increasing the frequency of Gigablox drops.

Dragonblox Gigablox Slot Bonus Features

Each of the two main bonus rounds is triggered by different scatter symbols. Six or more lock’n’blox symbols will trigger the Monster Jackpot Feature, whilst six or more Free Spins symbols are required for the – you guessed it – Monster Free Spins Feature!

Monster Jackpot Feature

This is a fairly typical three-spin feature where you will be awarded three spins (or lives) to start with, with one life lost each time you do not hit a new Lock’N’Blox symbol on the current spin. If you do hit a Lock’N’Blox symbol, your remaining spin counter is reset back to the initial three.

The triggering Lock’N’Blox symbols will remain sticky for the entirety of the bonus round. The feature ends when you either run out of lives or fill the entire screen with Lock’N’Blox symbols, in which case the game will reward you with the jackpot prize of 5,000x your bet.

Monster Free Spins

The number of triggering symbols directly determines the number of free spins awarded, so six scatters mean six free spins, and so forth. You will also receive one additional free spin for each scatter symbol that lands whilst the feature is in play.

The chance of hitting the largest Gigablox symbols increases during the free spins feature. It’s also possible to trigger the Monster Jackpot bonus from within the Free Spins Feature, although I never managed to do this while testing the game!

Bonus Buy

There are two options on the bonus buy menu: the Lock’N’Blox Jackpot Bonus for 100x the normal price per spin or the Free Spins Feature for 65x. I have to say that I was surprised by this, as the free spins seemed like the more profitable – and difficult to hit – feature of the two.

Dragonblox Gigablox Slot Review Final Thoughts

I feel as if my opinion of this game has been skewed slightly because of the fact I seemed to be incredibly unlucky during the time that I was testing the machine! I do love the art style and presentation, and I feel as if there should be plenty of potential to hit a big win – perhaps it’s one of those games that you need to play for more than an hour or two to get a true feel for it. I’d still recommend giving Dragonblox Gigablox a spin yourself; perhaps it will grab you more than it did me.
