Game Overview
I’m not sure about you guys, but I like to make my wishes when blowing out candles, upon seeing a shooting star or throwing loose change into a fountain. Making a wish will not be the first thing that comes to my mind when encountering a dragon; it’s more likely my first thoughts will be why my leg suddenly feels wet and why I’m frozen to the spot, seemingly unable to move or even speak. I don’t know, but there’s something about their size, flaming breath, and big flappy wings that has me on edge. None of this seemingly bothers the Chinese, however, as it’s believed they symbolise great power, good luck, and strength. I’ll happily agree with two of those, but I’m not sold on the luck aspect as of yet. Perhaps that will change after a few spins on Dragon Wish, the latest slot release from Spadegaming with 3 reels, 5 rows, and 125 ways to win.
Digging into the features, Spadegaming has combined the ways-to-win mechanic with cascading reels, which is usually a good fit, while wild symbols and multipliers’ symbols help to create winning combinations and ramp up their payouts by up to 5x, respectively. As for the main event, this is a free spins bonus that offers double the multipliers of the base game.
So, does Dragon Wish breathe new fire into the slot’s sphere, or is it just a load of hot air? You have two options to find out at this point: skip straight to the free-to-play Dragon Wish slot demo below or read to the end to get my verdict. Actually, make that three options as you could do both and make my day!
Dragon Wish Slot Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols
It’s not just Chinese beliefs we have to thank for dragons, but also television and movies, as dragons have been portrayed in both for decades. Smaug in Lord of the Rings, Drogon in Game of Thrones, and the fiercest of them all, Donkey’s girlfriend in Shrek, are just a few prime examples. They’re also regularly used as the theme or part of the theme for many online slots, not just in Dragon Wish, as there are many Dragon-themed slots you can enjoy at the online casinos. We’ve reviewed a few here, such as Red Tiger Gaming’s 9×9 grid-style cluster pays slot, Dragons Clusterbuster and another Asian-themed slot featuring dragons, this time from Pragmatic Play called Dragon Tiger.
As standard, I’ll use this section to describe the symbol payouts, which, in this case, do not look particularly high, although you’d expect winning spins to get beefed up with additional winning combos as it’s a cascading reels slot. The Scatter symbol, which will pay in any position, is worth 2x the stake for three symbols, while the top-paying regular symbol is the Lucky Basket symbol, which also pays 2x when three symbols hit one of the ways to win. Next, we have the Red Envelopes paying 0.75,x, with the final premium symbol being the Chinese Coins, rewarding 0.4x for a winning combo of three. Propping up those theme-related symbols are generic playing cards which pay 0.10x for three matching Aces or Kings and 0.05x for Queens and Jacks.
As we move our attention to the betting options available on the Dragon Wish slot, a minimum bet of €0.20 and a max bet of €500 should satisfy most. However, I have my doubts that the top-end of that range will be available on the real money version of this slot.
Dragon Wish Slot Base Game
I found myself tilting my head to the left when I first saw the reel set up of Dragon Wish, as it looked similar to when people send you photographs that are flipped on their side. I guess I am used to the traditional 5 reels and 3 rows rather than the 3 reels and 5 rows used here. Still, that format delivers 125 ways to win, which means no paylines to worry about, as you just need to land three matching symbols on consecutive reels to create winning combos. When that happens, the symbols are removed from the reels so that space is available for new symbols to drop in from above. If you’ve played cascading reels slots before, you’ll know that means the chance for new winning combos to hit on the same spin.
Lucky Ball Symbol
Multiplier symbols, or Lucky Ball symbols according to Spadegaming, with multipliers of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x, can land on any spin during the base game or free spins bonus. These will remain on the reels during cascades and will add their multiplier values to any wins that occur, with scatter symbol wins the only exception.
Dragon Wish Slot Bonus Features
The main bonus round is triggered on Dragon Wish when three scatter symbols appear in view, which will award you 10 free spins to begin the feature with.
Free Spins Feature
During the bonus round, the multiplier symbols now have multipliers of 2x, 4x, 6x, 8x, or 10x. Nothing else differs from the base spins besides those doubled multiplier values. One positive is you can re-trigger the free spins bonus whenever another three scatter symbols land.
Bonus Buy
Players residing in a jurisdiction where the feature buy button is active can trigger the free spins bonus automatically at any time for a cost of 75x your bet.
Pros
- There’s a buy bonus which will let you cut past a mundane base game.
Cons
- The main bonus proved a big disappointment.
Dragon Wish Slot Review Final Thoughts
Well, my wish didn't come true, I guess, as I was hoping for a barnstorming video slot packed with lucrative features and exciting gameplay, but instead got a mediocre slot that, if I'm honest, is not something I’d see myself playing regularly. The last title I reviewed from Spadegaming, Royale Vegas, was also a middle of the road slot, so hopefully, the provider can kick on in future releases and get back to their best.
