Game Overview
Fat Panda has teamed up with Pragmatic Play to turn up the volume in DJ Neko, a neon-lit 3-reel slot featuring a cat DJ, pulsing beats, and big-money symbols that can be worth up to 5,000x your bet! It’s primarily a mobile-first game, but is it worth your time? Let’s find out in this detailed review.
Theme & Design
We have a soft spot for music-themed slots, and for us, there’s something quite appealing about those flashing lights and synth-heavy soundtracks. DJ Neko instantly gave us that same rush we got from titles like Club Tropicana Happy Hour and The Rave, but the unique Japanese twist makes things even more interesting, in our opinion.
Now, if you’re not aware, “Neko” means “cat” in Japanese, and Fat Panda (in conjunction with Pragmatic Play, who the game is powered by) has done a pretty good job of tying the theme together to the club/rave vibe. The slot is set inside a Tokyo-style nightclub, and you’ll see pink and purple strobe lights with a pretty funky-looking cat DJ bobbing its head above the reels.

DJ Neko Gameplay & Bonus Features
DJ Neko is designed around a pretty unique 3-4-3 reel setup. There are ten fixed paylines in play at all times. You can bet between €0.10 and €240 per spin. The game offers a slightly above-average RTP of 96.5%. Just be aware that Fat Panda, like Pragmatic Play, offers its titles in multiple RTP settings.
The heart of the gameplay revolves around Money Symbols. They appear on all reels and carry random cash values from 0.5x to 5,000x your stake. However, to get any of them to award a payout, you need to land at least five of them on the reels at once.
Now, any time you land a Money Symbol, there’s also a chance that the free spins bonus round can trigger randomly. When it does, you receive 8 free spins. During these spins only blank spaces and Money Symbols can land on the reels. That’s just about all there is to it, and it’s impossible to re-trigger the free spins feature, too, if you were wondering.
Pros
- Win up to 5,000x your bet.
- Mobile-friendly 3-4-3 layout.
- Unique and quirky theme.
Cons
- Boring gameplay.
- Landing 5+ Money Symbols is tough.
- No modifiers or re-triggers during free spins.
DJ Neko Slot Review Final Thoughts
Fat Panda remains a fairly small studio, and most players will simply assume it’s a Pragmatic Play slot given that the user interface is almost the same. Sure, DJ Neko contains a pretty cool theme, and the club-like energy alongside the DJ-ing cat looks cool, but mechanically, there’s not really a lot to get excited about.
Given the 3-4-3 reel set, there are so few positions anyway that actually landing 5+ Money Symbols in view is pretty tough, and to make matters worse, there is absolutely nothing special about the free spins bonus round at all; you can’t even re-trigger it.
Sure, you could get lucky and land the 5,000x Money Symbol, but even then, you need to land four others to win it, so for us, DJ Neko is mechanically a big letdown, despite being visually impressive.
