Slot Overview

Demon’s Gate is the latest release from Slotmill, a dark fantasy game designed with avalanche wins, cluster pays, sticky multiplier wilds, and progression-based bonus rounds. With a 5×5 setup, a demonic presentation, and a maximum win potential of 10,000x… is this a game worth playing? Let’s find out.

Gameplay & Bonus Features

Demon’s Gate is played on a 5×5 grid with avalanche mechanics and cluster pays rather than traditional paylines, and the slot offers a very slightly above-average RTP of 96.02%. Wins are formed by landing clusters of 5+ symbols anywhere in view, and you can bet between €0.20 and €100 per spin.

The key base game feature is the Multiplier Wild. This symbol can appear with values of 3x, 10x, 20x, 30x, or 100x, and when it lands, it substitutes for all symbols except Bonus and Super Bonus symbols. If it contributes to a winning combination, it multiplies the win by its current value, then increases its base value and moves to a random symbol position before the next symbol drops down.

The Free Spins Bonus is triggered by landing 3 or more bonus symbols anywhere in view, and doing so awards 5 free spins and starts with a 3x multiplier wild. This Wild stays on the reels for the duration of the feature, and during the bonus, extra bonus symbols are collected across five stages, unlocking additional free spins and upgrading the sticky multiplier Wild up until 100x, if you’re lucky.

There’s also a Super Free Spins Bonus, triggered by 2 or more bonus symbols plus 1 Super Bonus symbol. In this version, two Multiplier Wilds remain active throughout the feature, making it much easier to form big wins when both are involved in a cluster.

Bonus Buy & Ante Bet

Demon’s Gate includes several optional extras. Xtra-Bet doubles your base game stake and increases the chance of triggering the Free Spins Bonus, while Slotmill’s signature Fast Track menu allows you to buy into both features for 100x and 400x, respectively.

Theme & Design

Demon’s Gate leans pretty hard into infernal fantasy, something we’ve seen in quite a lot of slots recently, and you’ll see the reels designed around a black-and-red colour scheme, with horned demon masks on the screen.

The game has that signature Slotmill look and feel to it, but where things don’t quite make sense is with the samurai, on the right-hand side of the reel grid. This is quite unique, and it’s refreshing to see a provider choosing something unusual. (Since when do demons and samurais mix?!)

It doesn’t really compare to any games; that’s how unique it is, but if you enjoy other Slotmill classics like Golden Scrolls or Eternal Dawn – Demon’s Gate is probably a title you’ll enjoy.

Pros

  • Sticky Multiplier Wilds
  • Win up to 10,000x
  • Very unique, unusual theme

Cons

  • The standard bonus feels quite weak against the Super Bonus
  • Bonus Buy/Ante Bet options unavailable in some markets
  • Game is very reliant on multipliers

Final Thoughts

Demon’s Gate is a decent little cluster-pays slot from Slotmill, and we like how the software provider has chosen to offer up a theme that is, by all accounts, probably the first of its kind. The mechanics may not be the most unique in the world, and there are some definite Jammin’ Jars vibes here, but Slotmill doesn’t claim to have invented a new formula.

The multi-stage bonus works quite similarly to NexGen Gaming’s old 300 Shields, and, like that classic, Demon’s Gate leans into the high-variance side of things, as expected, of course, given the game offers a maximum win potential of 10,000x.

So, all in all, Demon’s Gate is a pretty solid little cluster pays game with a well-thought-out multiplier wild mechanic, and if you’re a fan of previous Slotmill releases or enjoy progression-based free spins bonuses, this is one you’ll want to check out!
