Game Overview

Not all iGaming studios are built the same, and one developer who has always tried to take a different approach with their releases is Print Studios. This can be witnessed once again in today’s review as we look at the provider’s Deck of Scurra slot, a 5-reel game with 243 ways to win, a free spins bonus round, and a maximum win of 20,000x.

Theme & Design

Gambling dates back thousands of years, and by the looks of the coins on the table the reels are set upon in the Deck of Scurra, Print Studios has sent us spiralling back into the past, where all may not be quite as it seems once this ancient game gets under way. Why do I say this? Well, there are some pretty mysterious-looking symbols around, potentially possessing mystical powers to help you on your quest to big wins. Sounds interesting, right? And it’s certainly a theme and design we don’t often see, so kudos to Print for staying diverse with the direction they choose in the development of their slots.

We’ll get into the features of the game shortly, but before we do, it’s that part of our reviews where I recommend some similar slots for you to play. Perhaps surprisingly for some of you, there’s a good variety of card-themed slots to choose from, so if you’re ready to try out more titles in the niche, head on over to our Super Ace demo, Mahjong Ways demo, and Mahjong Ways 2 demo, which are all very similar slots in their style where reel cascades and win multipliers take centre stage.

Deck of Scurra Gameplay & Features

Print Studios’ Deck of Scurra is a 5-reel, 3-row online slot with 243 ways to win and an RTP of 96.09%. The game features a strong selection of betting options, with players able to stake a minimum of €0.20 a spin, up to a maximum of €50.

Deck of Scurra is a cascading reels game of sorts, with winning cards being removed from the reels and replaced with new ones for extra chances to win. On each spin, random cards will also have additional cards placed on top of them; if these are part of a win, an alteration card will be revealed and used when you can no longer form a win. These cards are:

  • Coronation Card: Upgrades low-paying symbols into high-paying cards.
  • Blue Lunar Card: Changes low or high paying cards from one suit to another.
  • Purple Lunar Card: Changes all low or high paying cards into the same suit.
  • Regular Crow Card: Duplicates matching cards, increasing the number of winning ways.
  • Golden Crow Card: Doubles all visible duplication numbers.

Last of all, we have the free spins round, or the Evolving Deck Bonus, as Print calls it. Collect at least 3 Jester Cards to trigger the Evolving Deck Bonus.

During the bonus, cards are reused between spins, and all card alterations are permanent until the bonus ends. Before the first spin, a set of Symbol and Alteration Cards is randomly drawn for a deck upgrade. More Jester Cards collected means more free spins and more cards drawn for the deck upgrade.

Bonus Buy

Players wishing to spin with more risk can choose from the following enhanced betting options:

  • Adjustable Scatter Boost: Increase your chances of hitting the required scatters – Costs up to 80x the base bet.
  • Evolving Deck Bonus 1 – Costs 81x the base bet.
  • Evolving Deck Bonus 2 – Costs 162x the base bet.
  • Evolving Deck Bonus 3 – Costs 678x the base bet.
  • Mystery Evolving Deck Bonus – Costs 150x the base bet.

Pros

  • A good alternative for those who wish to swap out reels for cards.
  • Unique gameplay with added modifiers.
  • High max win of 20,000x.

Cons

  • Can go on long spells of no wins in the base game,
  • Maybe more of a niche theme that won't appeal to some players.
  • Variable RTP models.

Deck of Scurra Slot Review Final Thoughts

Print Studios are not the type of developer to pump out games week after week, which generally leads to each of their releases being high quality. However, whilst you can't knock the provider for the design and overall look and feel of Deck of Scurra, it's just a game I couldn't get to grips with, and to be honest, it just doesn't appeal to me at all. This might not be the case for you, so I suggest you try out our free demo and utilise the bonus buy option to see if your opinion differs from mine.
