Deal With Death is a dark, poker-themed release from Hacksaw Gaming that mixes traditional slot mechanics with full-blown 5-card poker hands, joker modifiers, and several different bonus rounds. It’s a pretty unusual idea, and the whole game revolves around something called Poker Mode, but with a maximum win potential of 20,000x, it’s got our attention. Is it any good? Let’s take a look.

Theme & Design

Deal With Death is set inside a smoky, simplistic underworld that is ruled over by a skeleton figure wearing a gold mask. He acts as the dealer, and it’s him, presumably, you’ll be dealing with if you want to win big!

Now, visually, the game is quite simple, and the reels are set on a dark black backdrop with some floating mist. Other than that, there’s not a lot going on, but it looks pretty good, and Hacksaw Gaming has pulled off a simple theme really well, we feel.

Of course, poker-inspired games are nothing new. Titles like Poker Win and Poker Kingdom Win have introduced poker elements into online slots before, but nothing has been quite as realistic as Deal With Death, to our knowledge.

Deal With Death Gameplay & Bonus Features

Deal With Death is played on a 5-reel, 4-row layout with 14 paylines, and wins are paid from left to right. You can stake between €0.10 and €50 per spin and the game offers a default RTP of 96.25%.

Now, the core mechanic of Deal With Death is a little complex to understand. The base game is called Classic Mode, and it works exactly like a normal slot: land three or more matching symbols, win, and, sometimes, land a JOKER symbol. The JOKER is wild, but when it lands, it also flips the game into Poker Mode, and it’s here that the real action begins.

In Poker Mode, every symbol transforms into a random poker card. Each row becomes a 5-card Poker Hand, and the game automatically awards the strongest possible hand for that row. A Royal Flush pays 2,000x, a Straight Flush is worth 500x, a four-of-a-kind is worth 100x, and so on. Depending on which Joker triggered the mode, a special modifier is then applied.

The Regular Joker simply selects the best card for its row, the Hand Multiplier Joker awards a multiplier of between 2x and 10x to that row, the Global Multiplier Joker awards a multiple to every winning row, and the Triple Trouble Joker takes all cards after payouts, shuffles them, and redeals the three best possible poker hands back onto the grid.

Deal With Death also contains a free spins bonus round which is triggered by landing 3, 4, or 5 FS symbols during Classic Mode. Doing so awards the Deal With It, Dealbreaker, or Fool’s Gold bonus rounds respectively. During Deal With It free spins, there’s an increased chance of hitting Jokers, while Dealbreaker free spins builds on that by increasing the payout of every Poker Hand each time it wins.

The top bonus, Fool’s Gold, guarantees a Joker on every spin, while also integrating the increasing payout mechanic seen in Fool’s Gold. All three bonuses can re-trigger with +2 or +4 spins, too, if you land extra FS symbols inside the feature.
