Game Overview

Wanted posters and sticky wilds… what does that remind you of? Actually, we won’t be talking about a new Dead or Alive game today but Push Gaming’s latest in the form of their Deadly 5 slot. There’s lots of familiar imagery here – sheriff’s badges, crossed twin guns, holsters, boots… it all feels very familiar as soon as you begin to spin the reels. It takes a brave developer to take on NetEnt’s formidable franchise as brazenly as this, so how will it work out for them? In just a few hundred words, you’ll have your answer! For now, however, let’s stick to the vital statistics! Deadly 5 is a 20-payline game with an RTP of 96.39% and a maximum win cap of 5000x your bet. Push Gaming has

Features? Well, hitting three or more scatters during the base game will trigger a bonus round, but there is a little more to it than that in the Deadly 5 online slot. Three scatter symbols will award 10 free spins and a 3x bet cash prize, whilst four or five scatters up those numbers to 15/20 and 10/50x, respectively. The free spins have an additional feature in the form of the full reel sticky wild symbol that appears on reel five, and you can also gain additional full stacked wilds by hitting a matching outlaw on the reels below during free spins. Still, sadly these won’t remain sticky for the remainder of the bonus round.

You’ve got to be at least a bit intrigued to see what this game offers, right? Then read on in our full review and try some spins for yourself in the free demo slot of Deadly 5 that’s included in our article.

Theme, Stakes, Pays & Symbols

So, I think we have already made it pretty clear that Deadly 5 is an obvious copy of Dead or Alive in some ways, but this only goes as far as the visual styling; the game itself plays quite differently, and there are few similarities between this game and NetEnt’s classic Dead or Alive or Dead or Alive 2 slots as far as how the games play. The five-by-four layout is quite unusual, especially for a game with 20 paylines. A 5,000x win cap feels incredibly tame by Dead or Alive standards, too – the latest game in that franchise maxes out at 111,111x your stake, so there is quite a significant gap in terms of how much you can win from playing these slots.

It sounds like a bad start for Push Gaming, but can they pull things back with their paytable? The Wild symbol pays a chunky 250x your bet for a full pay line of five-of-a-kind, but you will be lucky to see this more than once a month, even if you play the game every day. I’m not basing that assessment on math or anything, but I still think it is reasonably based on the size of the win and the odds of winning the highest 5,000x prize. The Bonus Symbols pay 50x your bet for all five, but again, this will be a rare sight no matter how often you play Deadly 5. The Cowboy with twin shooters is worth 75x your bet for all five, whilst the Female Outlaw pays 62.5x, and the other Girl with white ponytails returns 50x your stake for five-of-a-kind. The final “high-paying” symbol is the Cigar-Smoking Outlaw, with a return of 37.5x your bet for all five, after which there are just four more low-paying symbols, which all pay 5x your bet or lower for a full pay line.

Staking options range from €0.10 per spin at the bottom to €100.00 at the top, but as is all too frequent in online slots, there aren’t too many options toward the top end of this range. I doubt this will bother too many players – does anybody play €100 per round? Even so, it still seems worth mentioning here.

Base Game & Modifiers

Deadly 5 slot base game
Deadly 5 slot base game

The base game of the Deadly 5 online slot consists of five reels with four symbols per reel. Twenty paylines are spanning this area, which is slightly lower than average, bearing in mind that many 5×3 games have more than 20 ways to win, but as most of the symbols are stacked, you should still find that wins appear with a relatively high frequency.

Unfortunately, there are no modifiers or other base game features in Deadly 5, so I guess we’ll move straight on to the bonus rounds section – Push Gaming has a little more to offer in that department!

Deadly 5 Slot Free Spins Feature

Hit three scatters during the base game, and you will be rewarded with ten free spins plus a 3x stake cash prize, whilst four will give you 15 spins and 10x your bet, and five scatters will pay 20 spins plus 50x your current stake.

Free Spins Feature

During the free spins feature, the Sherriff symbol will appear on reel five as an expanded sticky wild, so you won’t need to hit any matching symbols on that reel for the duration of the bonus round. As for the other four reels, a related outlaw is shown at the top of the reel, and any matching symbols that appear below will expand and become stacked wild for the current spin only. As each new free spin kicks in, your expanded wilds will disappear, and you will have to hope to hit them again.

Bonus Buy Feature

You can purchase a bonus round for 80x your current stake if permitted in your jurisdiction.

Pros

  • Excellent graphics.
  • High return to player percentage
  • Cheap bonus buy cost of 80x.

Cons

  • A low maximum win of 5,000x.
  • The free spins can be frustrating at times, resulting in low wins.

Deadly 5 Slot Review Final Thoughts

Deadly 5 has some stiff competition in the Western slots genre, so having some great-looking graphics was never going to be enough on its own to make it stand out from the crowd. Yes, the bonus round does offer some thrills and spills along the way, but after a few sessions playing it I think you'll quickly forget that it existed at all.
